It is! Rereading Amazing Spider-man 698-700 along with Untold Tales of Spider-man earlier this year really reignited my passion for Spider-man.

Using your discretion is the way to go. I didn't count reading a back-up story in an Amazing Annual because it wasn't the entire issue, but I have it on my master list because it is a Spider-man story.

I also didn't count Spidey's appearance in the new Captain Marvel #1, but I don't think it would necessarily be wrong if one did.

Flicking through some of the back issues I've not read and decided to fix that. Read Web Of Spider-Man #88, part five of a story I've only ever read the last issue of. Made NO sense to me, but evoked plenty of 90s nostalgia with Saviuk pencils, old-school colouring, crap Hobgoblin and a cybernetically equipped villain with an electro-rope and a padded outfit.

Followed that up with Spider-Man #76, #77, #79 and #81, all from the Mackie/ JRJR era literally just after the Clone Saga ended. It's startling how little influence that whole affair had on these issues: except for a throwaway joke about Peter wishing there were two of him (and quickly regretting it) and his efforts to aid The Cat (the WHO?) in saving his son, it's like it never happened. Pete and MJ are back at school, the Stacy relatives are becoming prominent and Morbius has bitten Pete and given him vertigo which is soon to result in one of my favorite issues of all time, PPSM #84. Most of these issues left me cold, though, even though the rest of this period (collected and otherwise) is very enjoyable.

What's weird too is the lapse in trade dress on the cover of #77, where the usual cornerbox is sort of scattered all over the place. Also, this issue features some of the worst art I've ever seen by what feels like many different pencillers.

Spider-Island, Flying Blind and Trouble On The Horizon took me up to #681 with Venom and DD crossovers, so I'm at 89. Enjoyed all three books a whole lot, same as the first time I read them, Trouble On The Horizon in particular.

    Also I'm in the lead

Superior Spider-Man 2 I'm liking it. I'm not liking how little Spidey I've read lately though. I have too many other books to read before I start re-reading issues again.

Got caught up on Venom and Scarlet Spider up 'til the end of Minimum Carnage, which was such Minimum Entertainment that it burned me out and I've taken a break. Maybe my own fault for reading 34 issues in one night that also included that awful Circle Of Four crossover in Venom.

    133 to date.

Now up to date with those two, with another 7 issues read. Since Remender left Venom, SS's taken over as my favourite of the bunch. I really like his supporting cast.

    140. Time to get back to ASM now, methinks.

Controversial. I loved it. It's been listed as one of the best Spider-Man stories in a few places.

But there have been some people who really hated it.

Spider-Man #1-5. For the first time, I read Torment. The plot, such as it was, and dialogue was tough to get through. Kind of painful. But the art was McFarlane at the top of his game. I understand that the first issue sold something like 2.6 million copies.

Also, I read Death of Superman, PS238 and some other stuff.

Ends Of The Earth's taken me up to 148 on the Spidey front. I've read at least 150 others including some old Spawn, all of Preacher, JMS' and Gillen's Thor and the usual new releases I keep up with. Didn't realise I'd actually gotten through over 300, though. Pays having time off from school and work, I guess!

Got my Spider-Men OHC in the post this morning so I think I'll have a look over that now, as well.

Shed is really good, Bachalos art really kicks up a level.

Spider-Men and ASM #352-357 (Sidekick's Revenge) and #365-367. Spider-Men is great and I couldn't want any more than what that book offers on every level as a comics fan. Round Robin: The Sidekick's Revenge is much, much less good. Terrible, really. The 30th anniversary issue of ASM has a great done-in-one Lizard story that follows up on Torment and is five times as good in a fifth of the length, as well as other bits and bobs from a pair of essays to a completely unrelated Prowler story that all make for a neat little package. The two issues immediately following that didn't grip me because the artist was rubbish and knowing how the fake parents thing turns out robs that story of its mystery.

    162 total.

Oh, and speaking of Shed, it's funny how in #365 Martha Connors worries aloud about Curt putting Billy in danger, remarking "H-His own son?! He wouldn't!"

    He would, Martha...
