1) Find a bad guy
2) Be Wolverine
Ultimate Wolverine is coming back, sort of!
I'm getting a bit fed up with Kitty now too. Her logic is just going around and around and she comes across as a more of a moaner each issue. It's great to see her perspective but the problem I have (each to their own mind you, I know others may feel different) is that's she's not terribly engaging. I hope with some new acrs starting up we get a new lead. I'm over Kitty now.
Man we need to explore the Tian landscape. The glimpses we see is fantastic. I think Jean is fully believing in Tian and anyone who hasn't taken the invitation is an idiot. Tian might be the side that is above the conflict. Kitty, Mach 2 and Jean three women with their causes.
I quite liked this issue. The characters seemed to take on a bit more depth this time (Jimmy, especially, is finally getting a bit of development and action), and people finally got to use their powers and hit things! It's like an actual super hero book!
The characters are still so, so, so wildly out of character, though. Psylocke being evil and wanting to kill Kitty - a fellow former X-Man - makes no sense. Storm still acts like she has never met Kitty before (and stands around uselessly for most of the issue, too) and maybe my memory of her appearance in the first arc is just really bad, but I honestly still have no idea what on earth Kitty is meant to have done to Nomi in New York to have made her hate her so much. Jean setting herself up as some evil mastermind (and what the hell happened to Zorn and Xorn, anyway?) to plot Kitty's downfall makes absolutely no sense, either. You can't do a character driven story if you don't have any idea who the characters are in the first place.
Tony Stark, however, was a lot more himself here than under Humphries in Ultimates, so that (plus the mini) is definitely a nice break.
I'm hoping that this little trickle of action isn't the last we'll get for now, but this issue was definitely going in a much better direction than the majority of Wood's run previous to now. More of this, less pubescent whining for the sake of it.
@Wolverine12: I really enjoy your reviews. They're extremely balanced and helpful so thank you very much for posting them!
