It's really starting to annoy me, actually.
I started on this title because it featured my two favorite Lantern characters: Kyle and Fatality.
Now she's gone and Carol's taking front and center, even crowding Kyle out.
This issue was a huge let down. The Running Man plot was tepid at best. Outside of Arkillo's delivering some solid laughs, there was nothing here I wanted to read.
Freedom is the ability to live without fear of persecution. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less.
I happened to find this a bit underwhelming. Did not make me want to read Threshold either. Just seems like the old Running Man movie adapted.
I really liked this. Staggeringly better than regular New Guardians issues...Giffen should really write either New Guardians or Green Lantern Corps. The GL line really needs some of his weirdness and world building, as New Guardians and GLC are always so mundane, if not outright bad.
I thought this issue did a great job to set up Threshold. The Hunted is naturally exciting and should provide for lots of action, tension, and more world-building. I wasn't too crazy about the new characters, but I expect them to grow on me with time.
I'm not really getting the art complaints, I thought it was fine all-around. I was very happy to see Kolins revert to his pencilled style, as I thought the faux-painted style he was using a few years back was really bad and took away from the best aspects of his art. Bressan's work was nice too, reminded me of a Burnham / Kuder type artist.
I thought some of the dialogue for Arkillo and Saint Walker was a little awkward or unnatural for those characters, but this was probably the most I've ever liked Carol Ferris as Star Sapphire, so that evens out.
Fun issue, tons of content, felt like I got my money's worth. Definitely jumping on the Threshold bandwagon.
I loved the writing, but the art was a turn off. Still, going by JUST the writing, it did nicely. Not enough Kyle, but Carol was great in the spotlight, and our intro to Threshold got my curiosity up.

Hey. I'm interested in picking up Threshold (Giffen + Cosmic DC = Me there). This annual is a kinda spring board into Threshold right? Does it stand on its own well enough for me to just pick it up cold?

Yeah, you might go 'who's that'? with one or two characters if you aren't up on your 'other corps' but that's about the worst of it.
