The first printing has sold out, so that probably explains why prices are jacked up on eBay.

I still don't see why it's such a collectors item, but did I enjoy this book. This is Luke and Leia. Han and Chewie. Vader. The characters I grew up with.

This is the kind of story I've always wanted more of. Del Rey's novels have become a plodding mess. (Thankfully, they appear to be heading in the right direction.) This? This was Star Wars. (Could have used a little less narration, though.)

Question: Where was the digital code? I looked and I don't think the newsstand copies have them.
Is it mess because of the new characters they eplored or because of LOTF/FOTJ?

I'll chime in on this one: I've read all of the expanded novels and I agree they're a mess. They're dragging a story out way too long. The last story, FOTJ .... good god. 9 books?? Give me a break. It seems like in the entire pool of 50+ novels that drive the main story along, only a handful have been really good. The Yuuzhan Vong war was 19 books I think. That should have been 5 maybe. Then the Jacen Solo story was 9 books as well? 3-4 would have done it, although I did enjoy almost all of those novels.

I'm at the point where I don't think I'll read anymore, I'll just read the summaries.

I saw that Vader stride panel since the previews and I didn't care for it either, but I had a chance to read my copy yesterday and the the rest of the art in the issue is pretty good; guess every now and then an artist had a bad panel :)

Pretty good issue, it almost made me feel like a kid watching the original trilogy, so kudos for a mission accomplished to Brian Wood. I only wish there was a bit less exposition, it'd be hard to find someone who buys this comic and don't know who the characters are.

    8.5/10 from me :)

Del Rey just takes too freaking long to tell their stories. Stuff that would have been good in three books is bloated up to nine books. Or has an endless stream of tie-ins, like the Vong war.

What I meant when I said they're going in the right direction is that they're supposedly dropping the massive story arcs. They're doing a "Sword of the Jedi" trilogy with Jaina and a series of solo novels set between the OT. The Han Solo novel--Scoundrels--is out (along with a Lando ebook) and Leia and Obi-Wan novels will be out later this year.

I really prefer the EU novels of the '80s and early- to mid-90s, when they were generally either one-and-dones or nice little trilogies. Ever since the rights went back to Del Rey in the late-90s and they started the overblown Vong storyline, I generally lost interest.

I still need to pick up Scoundrels, though. Sounds like a fun throwback kind of book.

yes brian wood can do no wrong. i think the writers are just probably on the safe side in terms of exposition. they want might to put this book out to the ones who are not that familiar with the original trilogy? (though that would be insane!)

and yes, it sure makes me feel like a kid all over again.

There are more then a couple of those kind of books out there. some of them are fairly recent.
Mindor is one of the best recent books:

    Scoundrels is good so far.

There is agreat book about Palpatine's master.

There are the Hand of Judgement books which are allright but nothing extraordinary.

    If you like the CW and unconventional Jedi i would suggest No Prisoners by Traviss;

I'll say this book was just okay. It did a good job giving us a background on Palpatine, finally, but overall the book felt a little boring.
