    Default Shadowman #3

So, who got it? I will be grabbing mine after work and I can't wait to read it to continue this amazing story.

Got it. First issue of anything from Valiant that left me underwhelmed. It had its moments, but in general the debut of Jack in costume was kind of meh.
In my opinion is implied in every post. Please make an effort to remember that.

I liked the issue: Good action, plot development, some answers...But I found some of the dialogue needs work (again).

It's really my only complaint, but some of it comes off as cheesy ("I hate plan B.") while at other times its a bit confusing (Twist's conversation with Lionel, Jack's convo with his Dad). I think the purpose is to be mysterious, but its more clunky than anything. Maybe it will read better on the second go round...but that right there tells me there's an issue.

The book is beautiful, though, and the plot is moving right along at a good pace. I just need more Shadoman and less Jack, at least for the next few issues. I feel like I have a good sense of who Jack is at this point, now I want to learn what Shadowman is all about.

Also, the more I see the elder Shadowman, the more I wish his look was Jack's look. Total badass design there.

Posting this from my car as I read Shadowman #3 waiting on my girlfriend to get out of work. Great issue! The art was stunning as it usually is and the story was really fun, though I'm kind of bummed that nothing cool came of the Mr. Twist encounter as I was hoping for a big throwdown. I did love the scene where Jack was talking with a former Shadowman, which I'm guessing was his father. The whole thing was pretty mysterious and epic.

    Awesome stuff!

I thought the issue was great, once again we got a few reveals and many more mysteries.

Visually it was stunning, Zircher at his best with etherial colours by Reber.

This book is now my #3 close behind XO and Harbinger, really good!

I have a lot of anticipation for next issue as I think we will get a lot of Shadowman action!

I rather enjoyed. It's my favorite Valiant series now coming in behind X-O. One of the interesting things that was pointed out in the review on IGN was that Jack gets a choice. He can either take the job as Shadowman or not. And the other thing that stands out is that it's a do it or don't job it's not harped on that the world would end if he didn't take it only that the curse would end. My only complaint is that the costume is pretty meh. Hopefully we either get a redesign soon or at least an explanation for why the para-military look.

Personally, I love his costume. I like the dark look and feel mixed with the modernized feel if it all, I think he's one of the most interesting looking characters in all of comics. I like how his father looked a little better though, especially as ragged as he appeared in issue #3, it was pretty awesome.

I'm still waiting for this book to catch fire. Its certainly not bad, but neither the dialogue nor plot seem to be anything special. The idea of using the tattoos on Dox to get the energy to bring back Master Darque was pretty cool though. Zircher's art is very good, but honestly there are a ton of books with good art out now. Harbinger took a few months to get going and now its one of my favorites anywhere so I'm hoping for the same from Shadowman.

I really liked the first two issues. Felt more indifference to this one. I also expected more to come of Twist's invasion of their "safe haven". Granted the issue showed that Twist was more interested in learning secrets than actually killing Dox. I also was digging on the attire of Shadowman Sr. but I'm not against the design for Jack. The line "get into the shadows" so he could access the power struck me. I can't recall, could he only be Shadowman at night in the other series? Or in this case it's daylight but you need to find a shadow to access that inner strength, turn it on if you will.
I'm also ready for much, much more Jack as Shadowman. I get that it's an introduction arc but so far it's been 90% Jack. I feel like I'm watching a Nolan Batman film but getting Bruce Wayne as the lead.

For me this issue doesn't move it up my rankings but I feel the potential of the series is there. The art remains incredible!!

The original definitely only seemed to be affected by his loa (if thats what it was) at night. But, yeah, the shadow concept is neat.

I didn't mind the confrontation at Dox's place for two reasons. 1) I think when Twist's flesh thingy got zapped, it intrigued him, leading to taking Dox captive. 2) I am pretty sure Darque needs Jack (or rather he needs Shadowman) to move from Deadside to Earth. So the non-lethal nature of the attack worked for me.

As for the costume, as I posted earlier I like Josiah's look a lot, but I understand the "urban vigilante" look of Jack. Justin Jordan himself explained that the costume is created from the host's unconscious image of what the Shadowman should look like. So the trench-coat is very 70s-80s blacksploitation/action movie, while Jack's look is much more modern a la Nolan's Dark Knight or The Avengers.

Am I the only one who felt that Shadowman (Josiah) looks somewhat sad and/or ashamed while talking to Jack? I don't know what it is but he appears to be very sunken with his head bowed down over the last page or two he appears in, probably because he's sad/ashamed that he had to leave his son behind before he was born. I don' know, just thought I'd bring it up.

Keep in mind that we are only on the 3rd issue here, the way issue #3 ended I'd say we're in for some thrills in issue #4 and lot's of action should come out of it. We just need to be patient with it, some comics go 4-5 issues before big battles happen and whatnot, we only had to sit through 3.

This series flat out has heart and soul - you can tell the creators are putting a lot of care into the work. As I said about earlier issues, again there are panels and pages here that are just incredible. The scene with the "other" Shadowman was a real highlight. The original Shadowman series in comparison had pacing as slow as a snail. Things are moving forward nicely here and the Shadowman character himself is very intriguing. The book definitely fills that Valiant horror niche. I am pleasantly surprised by Valiant quality level so far - I didnt think it would be as good as it has been.
