Not so bad! Not so bad at all! After the events that ended the old Spidey aka Peter Parker I was VERY skeptical. But, this looks actually interesting. Well played, Marvel. ^^

I agree that this is actually a better story than ASM#700 and sets the table nicely for not only a new story but a new direction. I can't, however, see this new direction going much further than 12-18 issues (if that).

Maybe issue 700 was a little off paced (and maybe a little bloated)---but this is the most interesting and unique spider story in years. I think you have to go back to the 90's clone story when a creative team tried something so different.

I'm excited to see how far SPider-man controlled by Octopus will go...and am excited to see what happens when Peter gets controll back and and how (and if) he repairs the damage.

Being taken over by one of your worst enemies for an extended storyline---YIKES!

I'm actually buying the floppies cause I can't wait.

I honestly think it could. But it would never happen. Marvel wouldn't commit to this as their new, permanent status quo. I think we'll get 24-36 or so issues out of the concept (because Marvel NOW is, I believe, 12-15 months ahead in their planning), which will land is, roughly in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, movie-range.

I like the concept (as sad as I am to admit that am I quit reading Spider-Man consistently after OMD). But I liked this. I checked out 698-700 just to see what all of Slott's twitter hype was about. It was pretty daring. And I think he moves the plot forward, really well. I WISH Marvel WOULD stick w/ this for the foreseeable future, and just let Otto grow and flourish as Peter. Force him to change. Force him to grow, and for fans to develop a legitimate attachment to Otto...and THEN take him away and bring Peter back. But again, I highly doubt that's going to happen.

As I'll address in the other thread - the last page was cheap. Everything up to the last page - spectacular. But the last page ruined it for me, and I look forward to ignoring ghosty goodness.

All in all - I wasn't even creeped out by the Otto / MJ scene. I think it's exactly how Otto would think - even w/ Peter's influence in there. And I am interested to see how Slott plays this. There is definitely, story telling potential / drama there.

I've just read it. The cover is the dead giveaway, with the shattered No.1 and the heading all fritzed, that this is not to be confused with the real Spider-Man. Spock is putting flowers on his passed life's grave, as if to say he has to move on to a new phase in his life, and is now being Peter Parker. And he's not just your ordinary wisecracking, deadbeat PP, but a very efficient, and well planned PP, who is what Doc Ock would be if Otto was told to masquerade Spider-Man. This is how he would do it. He would plant nanobots in a member of the Sinister Six, and learn all their plans, and slowly, and meticulously, tear their plans apart in front of them, making sure to humiliate them before all the press, so that Parkers camera need never come out ever again. Unfortunately Spock has a bit of a vindictive streak in him, after the Boomerang nearly cut Spideys throat, so in the last part of the takedown, Spock intended to kill Boomerang on live TV, but something stayed his hand. He didn't know what, but for some reason, Spock didn't, couldn't, kill this criminal like he intended, and Doctor Octopus always kills who he wants too!!! There is something not quite right here.

Spock has the cops duped, he has the owner of Horizon Labs duped, he has MJ duped. Spock can manipulate everybody he wants too, now he has a nice new healthy body to do it all with. So why can't he drive this silly thing? Its like Peter Parker has some hold over this body or something. But he can't. He's dead. "I killed him", Spock thinks. "Doesn't matter. I have my whole life to do with this body, I couldn't do as Otto. Now I'm in the boys club. Now I can go and come as I please and no one will be any the wiser."

Then along comes Casper, the friendly Ghost, not the Spider. It seems, hey, wait a minute, it isn't the end of the story of Peter Parker. No. Not by a long shot. It seems the story of Peter Parker didn't die in that shriveled up body of Otto Octavius, as was first thought, and that some semblance of a possession is having it's way with the body of Octavius, when he least expects it. It's like having a racing car, with a speed inhibitor installed in it, so you can't exceed the speed limit, and you're dying to see how fast this thing can go!!!! OFFS!!! At some point, Otto is going to get a real wake up call when he starts to realize he has to converse with the other Peter Parker driving this thing.

Has it hooked me to buy it again? No. The premise is too apocalyptic as far as Peter Parkers story goes. It's the death of Spider-Man and now we are being told it's Superman returning as only one colour this time. (That confused the hell out of me that time DC did that. Kill Supes already, and leave him dead, but they couldn't leave enough alone. Brian Reed did it again with Ms Marvel when she died and 3 different colored alien ghosts took her place for a while).

One can only surmise, that you can't kill these icons. They don't die. There's a comic with his name on the front of it, being printed on a bi-weekly basis. They must have crowd panelled a book without Peter Parker in it, and it didn't rate, so they had to put the Ghost in it straight away. Would I have bought a purely Spock book? Probably not either. Like other people have suggested, who wants to read about a hero who is now a villain? That happened in Dark Reign, already, and this is supposed to be the Heroic Age. If they had to kill him off, it means the character didn't work anymore, and that's an indictment on the changes they did to him up till then. Not that that's a bad thing, because Back in Black was such a good idea. It just ran it's course, and now we are going to get what? I'm looking to what comes after this.

I expect Superior to last the full year, with 24, maybe 25 issues before Peter's full return as The Amazing Spider-Man.

It isn't necessarily about tying in with the movie (although Cynical Me says an all-new first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man will be timed for release with the film), but more about allowing Superior to breathe as a story before its eventual end.

My guess is that Ock will enjoy a great heroic triumph (summer event) before taking a path back to full super-villainy, perhaps even going so far as killing a fellow villain, or innocent person, in full view of the media. This could then lead to Peter's return as Spider-Man; however, establishing a new (albeit temporary) status quo where Spidey is very definitely on the run from the law and from his fellow Avengers. Peter is fighting to clear Spider-Man's name, even though Spider-Man committed the act. It also creates the possibility of allowing Spider-Man to kill, rather than allowing Peter Parker to kill.

    Food for thought...

I wonder if Slott or Bendis will use Maha Yogi.

I think this will last a bit over a year, at the most. I'm open to it though, since its looking very interesting. And I saw the fact that Peter was still in there from a mile away, since its hint in Avenging Spidy #15.1 , but I didn't expect them to reveal it this early. I wouldn't be surprised if this entire series of Superior isn't only referring to Ock, but to Peter as well, so when he comes back this series continues. I'm loving the costume, so I wouldn't mind Pete keeping the changes Ock has made.(although I suspect he may want to get rid of the claws).

I think a year is the maximum. I think it could be as little as 12 issues because they gave out ghost Peter so quickly. Hell the only reason I think it's going above six issues is that they gave it a new title rather than just putting it as an arc in Amazing Spider-Man.

I may be in the minority but I've got to say that I wasn't thrilled with Superior #1. Watching Doc Ock hit on MJ is creepier than when he also married Aunt May. SpOck may be a "superior" Spider-Man, efficiently taking out the baddies but he certainly isn't a superior Peter Parker. Ock is a narcissistic jerk and I'm guessing he completely ruins Pete's life (MJ, Avengers, Horizon...). The most interesting aspect is when he realizes no matter what he does he won't get the credit, Pete will. I'm guessing Pete will get the blame for all of the horrible things Ock does in his name. The ending, while an assurance to all of our fans, completely deflated the series. Now it isn't about Ock being the best Spidey he can be... it's about Pete's journey back. Which can't be soon enough, IMHO. I won't be back for Superior #2 but it might be interesting to watch Pete try to pick up the pieces when he gets back.

After reading the issue, and seeing previews for #2 and the future solicits, I'm on board for this. I agree with a previous poster. I think this lasts until September. Should be a fun ride.
