Okay, I'm calling on the collective braintrust of these boards to tell me if a particular story idea has ever been done. Doesn't have to have been a major storyline, just if it ever appeared in a one panel story in a what-if or something like that.
There are a lot of fantasy realms in superhero comics that are ruled by kings, queens, or grand-dukes. In a some cases, a superhero is either the ruler or related to the ruler. Black Panther/Wakanda, Thor/Asgard, Aquaman/Atlantis, Black Bolt or Medusa/Inhumans, Wonder Woman/Themyscria, Namor/Atlantis, and Geo-Force/Markovia are some examples I'm thinking off off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more, and there are definitely a lot of stories where the superhero is allied or friendly with a monarch.
Has there ever been a story done where the ruler was asked, "Hey why can't we run this place as a democracy, seems to work pretty well for a lot of these Earth nations? I mean, shouldn't we have the right to choose our leaders by a vote?" Preferably asked by one of their own people, but I'd even take a regular human questioning it. Two rules, though:
1. Has to be genuine, not part of an evil supervillain plot.
2. Kingdoms run by villains don't count; has to be either friendly to a superhero or ruled by a superhero.
I'm having a hard time believing there has never been such a story, because everything has been done in comics. However, I can't think of any storyline that even came close. Educate me and possibly help me win a bar bet, oh CBR Forum!
