Exclamation Essential Superman stories to prepare for Man of Steel

I just read this awesome article, 10 essential Superman stories to prepare you for Man of Steel, and I found that list to be a very good list. Which recommendations would you all suggest to prep for the up and coming Man of Steel?

I don't see how most of those would "prepare" you for Man of Steel.

We don't know what the influences of the movie are yet. All Star Superman and Birthright seem to be so far, the former was quoted in the first teaser. Scott Snyder and Jim Lee are doing a Man of Steel book to be timed with the movie.

    You forgot Red Son.

Cavill cites it as the book that he really enjoyed and gave him a vital perspective on the character.

That list is beyond weak. Hell, not even Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow is on it. Only All-Star Superman on that list is important reading.

Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow is overrated in my personal opinion (heck I find Moore's Superman stories to be overrated)

Oh, it wouldn't make my top ten, but it's better than that list besides All-Star Superman.

Also surprised Secret Identity is not on that list.

Hm. That is a pretty short list. Another story that I think was really underrated was Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid and Lenlil Yu. Its one of my favorite origin stories for a character. The Death of Superman arc was also pretty good for what it was. World Without a Superman got pretty boring and dull, but the death story itself was good, at least in my opinion.

Another story that I think you should read is Superman: Up, Up, and Away by Kurt Busiek and Geoff Johns on story and Pete Woods and Renato Guedes on art. But to put that into context, you'd probably have to know what happened during Infinite Crisis* (which I thought was another good story for Superman). I also think you should maybe look into some of the stories from the Superman/Batman series. It was great team-up series and some good writers contributed to that. One of my favorites from that series was Big Noise.

I'm surprised Red Son isn't mentioned given that Cavill has stated it was one of his favourites of the stuff he read while preparing for the role.

I didn't bother to read all 47 pages of that thread, but there had better be some classic Batman in it.

Nvm, it's for recent stuff, my mistake.

If its a good movie, you shouldn't need to read anything. Just go in and enjoy it.

If you want to read something....just pick up something that looks interesting to you. But don't expect the movie to be like the comic....any comic....because its a different medium and stuff gets changed in the translation.

Here comes....Daredevil, the man without Fear.

    Everything's....Archie!

    It's.....Superman! The Man of Steel!

Works okay for me....although wasn't there a kids comic that said something like It's......Little Sureshot or something like that?
