There are only a few books that I have duplicates for, but the book that I own the most copies of is Legends of the Dark Knight #54:

I have my original copy that I got back in 1993, it's pretty dog eared now but I loved it so much I framed it on my wall. Then I have a signed copy by Mike Mignola which is also framed, my reading copy, a copy I lend out to friends and I recently purchased a digital copy on Comixoligy because it was on sale.

The only other book I have duplicates of is the Chained Coffin and Others trade, I have my original copy from 1998 with the old chess piece looking Dark Horse symbol, then I purchased a new version shortly before the first movie came out that matched the look of the other trades, then I got a new copy a few years back from Scott Allie and Dark Horse because there were known issues with the binding of the trades and finally I purchased the Library Edition because it's my favorite trade and the art just looks so great when blown up to fit a coffee table sized book.

I also bought a bunch of those 9 cent Fantastic Fours, and left them in the waiting room of the emergency room where i was working then. I thought it was a cool comic, and might make a good introduction for somebody.

And back in the day, I used to buy 2 copies of a series I liked if I thought sales were dangerously low. So for a while I had complete duplicate sets of Howard the Duck, Don Mcgregor's Black Panther, and Claremont/Cockrum's X-Men. Got lucky on that last one; sold a set off for some nice money. Which I spent on comics and such, of course.

I'm also terrible for buying multiple copies by accident. Worst time I ever did this was at a Comic Mart in London and I bought a three issue Batman run...TWICE. And then I only noticed this the next day as I was recording their purchases. I'm pretty sure these were bought within a few hours between each other...

I'm also a rotter for upgrading favourite books. I'm not talking big trophy books here, but the best examples are Animal Man #1 and Demon Annual #2. They just looked shinier and more crisp than my original copies!

As a back issue collector, and this is something I know I am not alone in doing, I have had to buy multiple copies within a lot to buy the missing two copies of the run. This was the only way I was able to finish the Miracleman run a few years back.

And then the only other reason I do it, is when I come across a book that I have already slabbed but need a 'free' copy. Again, this would have to be a bargain, and I wouldn't have to be to bothered about condition.

Once upon a time I bought multiple copies of stuff as a speculator. I did okay, but back before the internet it was kind of hard to actually resell duplicates so I gave up on it. I only got majorly burned once, so overall I think I came out on top.

I do still have a few things kicking around. Once, I bought a small stack of unread copies of Kirby's OMAC #1 for 10 cents each. I still have six copies I think.

I've also ended up with a number of doubles through buying lots on ebay, and by "a number" I mean "dozens." Luckily I've been able to either sell off or trade a lot of my doubles via the classic comics exchange, but I still have a pretty big pile here of doubles to get rid of. For example, through random chance, basically every Doctor Strange lot I bought had a copy of #35, so I now have 4 copies of that issue. Ah well. I have found some good use for these doubles occasionally; on Halloween, I handed out a bunch of Archie doubles I had accumulated. Hopefully some kid will get into comics as a result, who knows.

I recently checked and confirmed I have at least one high-grade dupe for every Amazing Spidey issue between 136 and 237...with 4 #136's...gotta love those Goblin covers. I acquired these after several years of buying high-grade Spidey lots on eBay, netting all these issues for free because I resold books throughout those years...often making my money back by reselling less than half of what I bought each time. I might make this available as a classic starter set of 101 or so consecutive issues when the next movie is about to come out...already have some interested offers.
