It could be good and funny, Dead Snow was one of the best movies of 2009.

I don't really care about that movie but that's a cool poster.

There is a lot of movies aimed at teen audience this year.

Really don't know what to make of this. It looks like it will probably be bad, but it could surprise. Gretel sure grew up purty, despite being pushed into ovens and following bread crumb trails.

Wouldn't they just be Hans and Greta by now? In German, when you add the "el", it makes the dimunitive form of a name. Sort of like changing Juana to Juanita in Spanish or the like.

This could be one of those kind of movies that it could be better than how the trailer showcase it. At least that's the vibe I'm getting.

Famke Jennson (sp?) has gone on record stating the only reason she took her role in this movie was to pay a mortgage.

And I think all the witches in question are played by models and stunt... women? Is stuntman unisex? Do you say stuntwoman?

Anyway, all that aside, I'm a sucker for movies with this sort of visual aesthetic, so I'll be catching it in theatres. Not expecting high quality cinema by any means, but it looks like a good fun eye candy flick.

Yeah the safest bet is to not take the film seriously.

It's not uncommon for adults to have diminutive forms of names. Heck, technically, Greta is diminutive, as well.

    I work with a 50-something Juanita.

    because
Yeah, that's true. I realized after the fact that technically names like Johnny, Bobby, Susie, Katie, etc are diminutives in English yet adults still use them. Largely because they've been used to being called them their whole life.

As for this movie, I really don't think I'll go see it. Don't get me wrong, I love fairy tales. Heck, storytelling using folk and fairy tales is one of my main hobbies. It's just that I usually don't go in for such reimaginings of already popular tales (barring some exceptions like ABC's Once Upon a Time). I much prefer it when the movie people create new fairy tales (like Pixar did with Brave) or when they adapt tales that aren't already very, very well-known. Granted, most of us might not know when they're doing the latter.

The thing I just can't get over isn't that the movie looks incredibly stupid, but rather that Hansel and Gretel are supposed to be close in age when Jeremy Renner is 15 years older than Gemma Arterton. And he looks it, too.

So the success of Snow White and The Huntsmen has spawned this, does that mean if this makes enough money we can expect to see a live action Three Little Pigs movie?
