Default Our favourite classic Peter David comics! =)

Yeah, with the words that PaD is currently in treatment for a stroke, I felt it would be a good idea to post a thread where we discuss the very best of his past works, and why we in perticular like the quality of his craft. =)

Better to post it here, since I figure his get-well thread would kind-of be a bit derailed by posting a bunch of covers and such.

    Here's mine:

    Incredible Hulk #345: Closing curtain.

The Hulk... IS DEFEATED! And it's in a way as resounding as he has never before or after, been defeated...

His enemy, the Leader, stands revealed, his plan for controlling the destiny of humanity is clear!

    The ending's a real tear-jerker guys.

    Love to hear yours, folks!

The list is endless, but to start:

    Atlantis Chronicles

    Aquaman (All of it!)

    Supergirl (#1-50)

    X-Factor (Again, all of it)

    Star Trek (DC's 2nd series)

I am not a Peter David fan nor am I a hater, but the Gray Hulk saga, is one of the greatest pieces of his work and of the best persona of the Hulk to date. He also did damn well with Spiderman 2099.

But Joe Fixit ... that's good stuff.

I think that Atlantis Chronicles is the only thing of his that I've read.

I think my favorite Peter David story is Hulk: Future Imperfect, but the nifty George Perez art may have a lot to do with that.

His Atlantis Chronicles and his run on Aquaman are also favorites.

The Death of Jean De Wolf in Spectacular Spider-Man was another very good Peter David tale.

One of my guilty pleasures is the Sachs and Violens four issue mini Peter did with George Perez for Epic. Its goofy fun that doesn't take itself too seriously.

When I was reading the X-books, his run on X-Factor in the 90's was a favorite as well.

I haven't liked everything Peter David has done, but the stuff of his I have liked ranks pretty high for me on my lists of favorites.

His Captain Marvel was one of the first things I read when I first tried getting back into Marvel and DC some time around the early 2000s or late 1990s. It had its ups and downs but on the whole, however much I might have liked or disliked certain aspects of the series, you could see that the writer was a skilled professional who knew his craft. I never became a fan in the sense of following his work elsewhere, but I respect his ability.

Spyboy and Young Justice (and, of course, Spyboy/Young Justice) would have to be at the top of my list.

Hulk 377. It's when everything from the last however many issues came together beautifully.

What the beautiful & talented foxley said.

    Also, Fallen Angel.
I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

Young Justice. Darn near the whole thing. It was the first superhero comic that ever made me laugh.

The death of Jean DeWolff really made me stop and take stock. That was a surprisingly adult story, a real Spider-man thriller.

I'm also very fond of the "voice" that David gives to the Star Trek characters. The interplay between Spock and Sarek during James Kirk's trial
(in DC's Star Trek comic) was spot-on and hilarious.

His Hulk run from 1987-1993 would have to be top on my list. The particularly strong issues featured the runs of Dale Keown and Gary Frank as artists. While I loved it even then, there was always this nagging "Yeah, this is good, but I wish the green Hulk would come back..." thought process going through my head during the Mr. Fixit years. Of course now it's clear that what he added only expanded the mythos and is still the last time the Hulk was truly a great comic (There have been moments, but nothing of such sustained quality)

OMG! I actually forgot he was the one that did that one! 0_o One of his early greats, for sure. I still haven't read it in its entirety... must correct this!

Yup, Gray Hulk is his legacy, the one that he'll be remembered for, for decades to come.
