Pickings are slim, as you've probably surmised. I'll second the recommendation for Batman # 470 though - not exactly a dead-serious take on the character, but then again he doesn't really lend himself to a dead-serious approach.
I remember liking him in The Batman.

Ever since Arkham City, I've kinda become interested in the character. In fact, if Dick stayed Batman (because I don't trust THIS DC to ever do right by Nightwing) I would've been for re-imaging Maxie and adding him to Dick's villains gallery.

Chuck Dixon (the author of the abovementioned tree bit) had some fun with him in his Robin runs, but they're a million miles away from "Fire From Olympus" in terms of intent.
