There must be some place where an objective line can be drawn in the sand.

Fiction is a fickle thing. It all depends on the next word that is written.

The very nature of art is that it is subjective, isn't it? What I'm curious to see is if the posters who have a preference of publisher can admit the other company has better artists :) I freely admit that I can't, but I welcome a counter as to why I should.

I definitely can. I'm a Marvel dude all day, but I can freely admit when another publisher does something more preferrable. And I really prefer DC's artist's to Marvel's by and large.

I'm not sure about artists, but what gives Marvel the leg up is that they have far, far better colorists.

Seemingly all the superstar colorists other than Dave Stewart are at Marvel: Matt Hollingsworth, Dean White, Bettie Breitweiser, Jordie Bellaire, Justin Ponsor, and Sunny Gho are all rockstars in my opinion (though Gho is currently is coloring Superman as well at DC and lo and behold, it's currently one of the best looking books DC is putting out). I'm digging Marte Gracia's work on All-New X-Men as well.

I only actively read like 2 or 3 books from DC, my Marvel collection is more then triple that. With that said, I acknowledge that DC has better artist then Marvel.

I agree, Marvel has the leg up with colorists. But since this is an artist discussion I have to go with DC.

I give Marvel the slight edge when you consider the murderous row that is on the Before Watchmen titles.

As I said in my earlier post, I've always been Marvel. Since I've been reading some DC since the relaunch, I can't think of a time that the art distracted me enough mess up my enjoyment. Meanwhile at Marvel, it goes from gorgeous artwork of Deodato or Opena to the horrible box people of Romita Jr. or whatever the hell Ramos draws. I picked up some back issues of Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 2 not long ago, and couldn't read but one of them due to the bizzare way he draws human beings. The sad thing for us Spidey fans is that Marvel thinks he is great and we're stuck with him.

I find that some type of artists works at a type of super-heroe stories, the old school method of mostly more action-packed and focused on the deadlines. You look at Marvel artists right now and they definitly have a more refined line and can express a lot more nuances yet the drawback is the lateness as it takes a lot more to do what they do. I can understand why some publishers would choose the current DC model but i'm thinking I would hope for a greater balance. Let the Reis and Franks do a book and have artist that can achieve a greater level on alternate books, perhaps? I like how Marvel seems to get a good balance by having replacement teams on certain books to compensate from a good artist being a little slow.
