Default Who has the better artists Marvel or DC?

So far most of the Marvel Now comics which have been released have some very pretty and sexy art like the Thor, Journey into Mystery and Uncanny Avengers comics and artists like David Aja, Esad Ribic and John Cassaday are Marvel's greatest strengths. But DC doesn't have many artists that can draw very well or as well as Marvel, for example Tyler Kirkham, Patrick Gleason or Trevor McCarthy arent as good as Stuart Imnonen or Mike Allred.

Do you think has better artists Marvel or DC?

Pretty much. There are hits and misses in both camps. For the most part I'm loving the art in everything I'm reading from both companies.

Some stand outs are Aja and Alred at Marvel and Sorrentino and Blackman at DC.

Dc has quite a few good artists also _ Reis (probably one of the best in the business, nowadays) Morales, Capullo, Booth, Barrows, Bennett, Frank, Benes, Finch, Portela, the other Kubert, Mankhe, Manpul, just to name a few, all top notch. The thing is, nowadays, Marvel seems to be going for the rotation teams with the wow factor, while DC seems to prefer those that can commit long term and still meet deadlines. As xmennut said, it really ends up being a case of personal preference.

Don't forget JH Williams III. Best in the business in my opinion.

Don't read a lot of DC but I'd say Reis right up there at the top of comic book art.

Yes. I'm sure I forgot others that I should have mentioned, but I just wanted to throw some names around. Those I named are all considered top level professionals, even if not all are personal favorites of mine.

I'd say they're balanced pretty equally. Marvel has their better artists on more high profile superhero books, but within DC, you have Williams III, Janin, Chiang, Sorrentino, and Burnham on mainstream titles with really incredible artists like Sean Murphy, Mark Buckingham, Peter Gross, and Matt Kindt pushing their storytelling on Vertigo books.

Well, DC has the two best in the business with Frank Quietly(maybe the best comic storyteller in the western world) and JH Williams III(who maybe the most flat-out talented dude drawing superhero books).

But really, I think they both have a lot of the best artists in the business right now.

DC has some great artist. I think Francis Manapul is doing a great job with Flash. The man is doing consistently great work. I also think Ivan Reis is quite good, as well. DC has Eduardo Risso, who IMO is one of the best artists in the business. Adam Hughes does covers and interiors of DC. You may not care for Before Watchman, but J.G. Jones, Jae Lee, Lee Bermejo are nothing to sneeze at. Sean Murphy is an amazing artist. Mikel Janin is doing good work on Justice League Dark. Greg Capullo is doing stellar work month-in, month-out.

I think what makes Marvel artistically better is that they seemed to have focused their big-time artists on their premier books. There's no question that Marvel is really putting a lot of their effort into the Avengers and it shows. Jerome Opena is doing some amazing work on Avengers. Esad Ribic on Thor. David Aja on Hawkeye. Olivier Coipel on Uncanny Avengers. Then you have the other big time artists like Stuart Immonen on All-New X-Men, Sara Pichelli on Ultimate Spider-Man. Kev Walker is one of Marvel's best and they have him on an Avengers related book. Valerio Schiti is probably going to put out some of the most beautiful, yet under-rated art in the next few months because he's on Journey Into Mystery and not a lot of people are paying attention to that book.

Plus, I've always been more partial towards Marvel than DC, so I don't know how objective my view will be considered.
Olivier Coipel - The best damned artist on the planet!

Shout out to Kev Walker! You're doing a hell of a job!

Out of this list Reis, Morales, Capullo, Barrows, Frank, Finch, Andy Kubert, Mahnke and Manapul are the most stand out. Add to that J.H. Williams, Aaron Kuder, Chiang, Rocafort, Asrar, Foreman, Burnham, Paquette and that's a pretty stellar line up.

But Booth, Bennett, Benes, and Portella are more in the good to solid area but not really to the level of evocative style and flash as the above mentioned.

I said I forgot some a should have mentioned.
As for Booth, he's really doing a hell of a job at TT, Benett IMHO, is one of DC's greatest unsung heroes, and Benes was considered top tier not long ago (plus, if Land was mentioned for the Marvel side, why can't I mention Benes for Dc?). Portella, IMHO, has a lot of potential. He reminds me of Steve Lightle. But, of course, that is all open to arguement. A few of those you chose to place in the stellar line-up really don't hit it with me.

    Peace

I've just never been a big fan of Booth's style in the anatomy or design sense.

Benes is a good artist but at this point he's a cheesecake artist who puts in breast/butt shots at any opportunity which becomes distracting after a while. Benett is good but not someone I'd put on JLA or Superman or anything although Portella probably shows the most promise.

But this is all subjective of course.
