'silly '60s X-Men costumes'? The whole idea of costumes is 'silly', don't sell the 60's so short, the fashion was great back then.

I disagree with the review. The comic wasn't simple enough for me.

I did enjoy the first arc thus far now with all the dust settle let's see if bendis will keep this train rolling
I agree with you. It's moving so very slowly and I'm not sure the emotional resonance with the characters is hitting the marks to allow for such a slow plot.
That said I can't believe The Buy Pile hated on this so much. "A stain on the marketplace." That's harsh!
When jean see's her death...that's practically enough for the price of admission.

I agree with the review. I think this issue more than anything proved that the concept of bringing the Original Five to the present works. The way Bendis set everything up just makes it an exciting, engaging story to read. Plus, seeing Jean Grey again is a real treat! But one part the review overlooked is how the scenes with Cyclops and his Extinction Team were glossed over. That was the one lowlight of the issue in my opinion. Bendis did a great job fleshing out the Original Five and Beast. However, the clash in the previous issue didn't seem to do squat for Cyclops and his team. He still went out, recruited a new mutant, and continued to build his team. What did seeing the O5 really change? I hope that's explored in future issues, but in this one I got the sense it was glossed over. And that was my only complaint. Otherwise, this was an awesome end to the first arc of an awesome series.![]()

X-men Supreme
The only thing I'm not totally buying is Jean's anger towards Scott. After learning everything she will one day go through because of the Phoenix, you'd think she would be the one person who would actually understand how Scott want from an awkward teenager to Charles Xavier's executioner. Still, I think this series is leaps and bounds better than I was expecting. I'm now even more excited for Uncanny X-Men to start!
One nit-picky note: I absolutely love Stuart Immonen, but he cannot draw Jean's early 70s yellow mask. She looks ridiculous in every single shot when wearing that outfit.
Nobody can draw that mask. It sucks. It's that fantastic outfit's single flaw.
I'm really enjoying this series, but I've been having trouble turning off my nerd brain, which keeps reminding me that time travel in the Marvel Universe follows very specific rules, and that when Beast travelled back to grab the original X-Men, it created a parallel reality separate from the regular Marvel-616 timeline. As such, all five original X-Men could die in issue #6 with no effect on the original timestream. And Beast should know that.
I *guess* it's okay to change the rules of Marvel time travel if it means a better story???
On it's own merits, I agree. One of the immediate things I noticed is that, while the story is only 20 pages, it didn't feel like it was short or rushed A lot happened and yet we still got two splash pages. I'm not a Marvel fan, and I think having Beast go through yet another change is just dumb, but we FINALLY get to the meat of this series and have it addressed head on with believable reactions and comments from the characters involved. When Bendis actually pays attention to the characters he is writing, instead of just overlaying whatever personality he feels is necessary to move the story along, he can really shine. Art, top notch all across the board.
If I ignore the fact that nothing happened in the first two issues of this series, and instead think of this as issue #3 instead of #5, then I'd say the series is off to a good start.
Bendis has proved to me that the O5 concept works, and that he has a fairly decent handle on them, Kitty, and Beast (adult). His bobby was a little whiny early on but now he's basically writing him like spidey, which works for him well enough.
On the other hand, I'm still very worried about Uncanny....
Gotta disagree with this review. Teen Jean could've easily cosplayed as Kitty or Teen Hank and nobody would've noticed the difference.
Oh, and also the part about the issue being good.
