I think part of what made NML work was the long format of the story. Things had weight, actions had consequences that had to play out, and change took time and effort. None of it could be done in 100 pages.

Man, I know they won't but it would be so cool if DC did a reprint of this with all the proper issues. Along with Contagion, Legacy, Aftershock, and "Road to" it would be really something to have all those trades along with NML and read them in one fell swoop.

I was fortunate enough to get Contagion for cover price, but Legacy was by far the most expensive book I purchased in my collection. I dropped 83.00 for a NM copy.
Pull List: None. Moving to trade-waiting.

I got my copy of Legacy for $55. I kind of sort of regret paying even that much for it, but screw it, my Batman trade collection isn't going to complete itself, now is it?

I figured if DC was going to reprint Contagion or Legacy or Cataclysm they would have done it with the NML reprints. So it's not that bad. I think I paid $15 for Contagion (with Batman on the cover, not the toxic symbol) and $21 for Cataclysm (first print, though I do like the second printing's different cover).

I am in the same boat. I payed about $30 for my Cataclysm copy (first print). I've been trying to find a reasonably price alternate cover because I also like it better, but that one seems rarer then the first. My Contagion is also the newer cover as well. My Legacy was steep, but I've always loved the story (I am big Ra's al Ghul and Bane fan).

When I've seen the alternative cover on eBay it generally goes for about the same or slightly less than the first print cover. You could probably get it if you were willing to shell out $35-50, but again, that's a lot for a TPB that you want just for the alternate cover.

Storywise, "Legacy" would be the most interesting and best trade to reprint.

Paid cover price for it a year or so after it came out. Was one of the first graphic novels I ever owned (along with the Knightfall trilogy and Contagion). I picked it up because I was a kid with a subscription to "Batman," so I had 2 issues of the whole crossover, but never got the whole storyline.

"Batman" included the "Prelude" issue, which ends on a cliffhanger, with Batman and family staring at the major villain in shock - but without the villain's face being revealed (being saved for "Detective Comics 700," which I didn't have a subscription for). So for a year or two, I never knew who was behind "Legacy" - though I suspected Ra's al Ghul. Which was a real bummer, because I didn't own any stories with Ra's, and he was a favorite villain of mine.

So a year or two after, when I saw the trade, I picked it up and finally got to read and own the whole story. Imagine my joy when I saw it was indeed a story not only about Ra's al Ghul, but Bane as well! Another childhood favorite villain.
