I can't even piece together the words to explain how terrible it is. I agree with whoever said you're better off not knowing.

It really upends all your work with Mutant Tracker, doesn't it?

Not really. That doesn't focus as much on continuity. It's more of having to acknowledge that Meteor, Holo, and the Goldendawn brothers appeared in a comic before. It's about as tough to deal with as the fact that Eye Scream is in there from the Obnoxio the Clown/X-Men one-shot.

Unlike a lot of other people, I was actually marginally optimistic about this book when it was first announced, and I retained some interest as it progressed. But in the end, I think it was a MASSIVE disappointment of hitherto unthought-of proportions!

Actually, I feel it IS an enjoyable book on its on (of the 'so bad its good' quality)...if you treat it as a kind of parody of the X-men mythos.

Its difficult to read the end of issue 5 without considering it tongue-in-cheek. So basically, Logan recruits the 'first X-men'...and EVERYONE DIES when his house burns down! The aftermath-Bolivar Trask builds Sentinels, Magneto decides to form the Brotherhood, Charles decides to start the Xavier School, Sabretooth hates Logan for getting his teenage girlfriend killed...and Logan basically signs up for Weapon X because he was drunk...!!! :P

Yeah, the last lines by the Weapon X agents were REALLY squirm-worthy...they were pretty much ripped off from X-men Origins.

There's NO WAY in hell this can possibly be canon...even from a strictly continuity perspective. It's definitely a parody...

It doesn't mess with any canon.

I did not like any of those either.

What?! Does anyone have a side-by-side scan to show this? That special was fun at the time but should've clearly remained a parody world - maybe for What If to revisit instead. Maybe I'm getting too X-picky...

I liked it, but I like old school X-Men and hate the modern stuff.

Also it seems like more of a prequel to "Weapon X" by Barry Windsor-Smith.

Only because it ends with Wolverine being recruited by them as he stumbles out of a bar, not for any other reason.

Well in the beginning of WX there is a report that professor guy is reading. It says Logan is a chronic alcohol abuser who seems obsessed with mutants. There is also a voice over where Logan says he has the shakes, and he's living in a homeless shelter called "Prophecy". I think the purpose of "the first x-men" is supposed to be a prelude to this, and explain why he's at such a low point (that and to attenuate that stupid ass in canon reason for Chuck joining the military) . Of course, we don't know exactly how much time went between his team getting killed and him being in that parking lot when the the g-men come for him. I was assuming a few months? Of course that one line "sign me up" does go against canon. In the WX version he gets tranq darted, and punched out. (I just got the Wolverine omni today and was surprised that they seem to go together so well, aside from that one line)
