    Default Long lost werewolf story...

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help. Years ago I remember reading a comic which featured a werewolf hunter who, after much hunting, found the beast and cut it's arm off. He returned home later that night to discover is dead wife at home with her arm missing. Does anyone else remember this? It may have been a short story in an anthology comic. Circa 1980s, although that's just when I read it. It could well have been from another era. It's not Scream, as I have all of these.

    Thanks.

For some reason, that summary is making me flash on B&W Berni Wrightson panels, which would make me think mid-'70s Creepy.
I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

There was a story in the first volume of the Creepy Archives that was similar to that, but not quite the same-man defeats werewolf finds out it was his wife, but not sure if he was a werewolf hunter per se and I don't remember the missing arm bit from the story. I read that volume of the archives over 2 years ago form a local university library, so I don't have access to it to follow up, but I don't think Wrightson was the artist on that tale.

I've got that volume. I'll check when I'm at home in a few minutes if no one else has done so by then.

You guys clearly know your stuff. Please riddle me this...
A cabin in the snow. An undead girlfriend returns to her lover after trekking through said snow to the cabin. This is a more recent story. Artwork creepy as hell.

Ok dug out an old reading journal to find the story-the one I was thinking of is called Howling Success by Archie Goodwin with art from Angelo Torres. It's from Creepy #3 and this is the synopsis I wrote when I read it back in Aug of 2010:

An unhappily married man narrowly escapes a werewolf and tries to cut a bargain with the werewolf to deliver it his wife on the next full moon, so the werewolf can feed and the man can collect on his wife’s insurance. The next full moon, he leads his wife into the trap, but is surprised to learn his wife is the werewolf, who kills and eats him.

So based on Optimist's summary I would guess it is not the tale he is looking for even though it has the wife turning out to be the werewolf element in common.

Famous last words. Got home & found out that the AT&T wireless connection installed at my abode some 71 hours earlier was no longer working. A tech guy won't be able to make it till Tuesday.

    *sigh*

Though, yeah, MRP covered the subject nicely anyway.

Seems to me I recall a similar story, only it wasn't a werewolf but a were-tiger. The man cuts off the paw, the creature escapes and he sees the paw has turned human. He heads home and yadda, yadda, yadda. I think it was in one of the DC horror anthologies.

That sounds like "Clarice" by Bruce Jones and Berni Wrightson from Creepy 77. I think the entire story is available online.
They're scientists, Allan. They know what they're doing.
