Weakest characters to affect the state of primary adamantium?

How good is primary adamantium's resistance to transmutation?

Because I'm thinking that Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist might be able to transmute it. He's not that strong either, excluding his alchemy he's just a street-lever.

Adamantium's a foreign material... I suppose if they could break down what made the Adamantium up, they could, but it wouldn't be easy.

Not really. Scar broke down all sorts of things without knowing what they were made of, from people to chimera to automail.

Which is odd, I could've sworn you had to know the substance you're transmuting to do anything with it.

Scar special arm has the ability to destroy things if he has a good idea of what they are, but if he guesses wrong (like automail instead of flesh or the wrong type of metal) it doesn't work. Ed used that against him twice (the first time by accident), IIRC.

OTOH, give Ed some time to study it and he (or Alphonse) would probably be able to figure it out.
