The subject reminds me of B.F Skinners work with pigeon guided missiles.
If development of the atomic bomb had been delayed for some reason it's likely that this weapon would have been deployed in Japan on a large scale. However, I doubt that it would have had an equivalent psychological impact. For some reason I just can't see the Japanese surrendering as quickly.
