To be fair Green Arrow eventually started to become the only reason to watch the show once Lex and Lionel left. At the end of the day Smallville was "These brand of characters are better and more interesting than Clark and his dragging quest to become Superman".

Eh. Ollie was marginally more interesting than Clark and the turgid romance storylines with Lana and Lois (pre-reveal), but he was hardly a compelling reason to watch.
