Default What is the best place to grab comics?

I used to read them as a kid, and am looking to get back into them. Now when I was a kid, I went to the comic store when I had money and grabbed what looked interesting. However, these days those stores don't exist. So I was wondering, what online options exist for getting marvel and DC comics? New and old series? For example I am really interested in Justice League Dark, and New Avengers. But I also know I should probably read some of the previous arcs and sagas before jumping into them. Anyone help me out? I prefer digital if possible because I am a technophile like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Comixology is the go-to site for digital. They have DC, Marvel, and pretty much all of the major indie labels. You can view the comics either from the website, or download it to your phone/tablet with their app...available for Apple, Android, and Windows devices.

The only fairly big name I can think of that isn't on Comixology is Dark Horse. They have their own app for their comics, but I couldn't say how big their digital catalog is.
Be a fan of the creators, not the characters.

I would very much recommend Midtowncomics.com. They have a wide selection of older comics and carry current comics too. If you order your comics in advance with their preview system you can get 35% off.

DCBService.com is also very good if you buy alot of ongoing comics, I wouldn't recommend it if you're just getting a few comics though since the shipping cost is steep. DCBS gives you 40% off if you order in advance.

If you're digital only then read Volkditty's post! :)

I'm sorry about your lack of comic shops in your area. Where on earth do you live man? I live in Allegheny county (Pittsburgh) and I can think of at least five in the southern half of the county /city and that's just off the top of my head. Is Pittsburgh some kinda nerd Mecca that I've just kinda been unaware of?
Ongoings I'm picking up: MANHATTAN PROJECTS, BEDLAM, FATALE, SAGA, THE WALKING DEAD, B.P.R.D. , CREEPY, EERIE, CONAN, DHP, HELLBOY, THE MASSIVE, MIND MGMT, STAR WARS, SAVAGE SWORD

Seriously, you live in PITTSBURGH. Try living in Maine.

I love Maine, spent almost two weeks in / around Belfast once. Didn't go to any comic shops I guess but I do remember there was a (table top) gaming store in town.

Im actually not that far from Belfast, and yeah around here, comic stores are rare. Place where I went to high school, closest store was a two hour drive one way.

I recommend going digital. Its easy, you dont have to drive anywhere. Your comics can download while you take a shower yknow? They're easy to take with you on trips or when you move. If it wasnt for my loyalty to my local store, I'd have switched to digital completely. As it is, I get a hefty discount from those guys, and I've known them for.....geez, ten years now? And even still, I get some of my titles digitally.

Avoid any mail subscription programs that DC runs. They're terrible, and I have never met anyone who had a good experience. Issues arrive late and/or damaged, if they even arrive at all. I assume Marvel is the same way, if either company even offers such things anymore.

This. The only publisher to not jump on the Comixology bandwagon is Dark Horse.

    Mycomicshop.com

They have an excellent selection, excellent prices, and an easy search engine with most covers shown.

    No, I don't work there.
