Well i liked it but there was some weird moments 1. i don't recall Morbious speaking so casually 2. he doesn't have that weird upturned nose anymore 3. Did he already know that homeless guy at Barretto point? i mean they seemed pretty comfortable with each other without even introducing each other or anything.
4. The art is really nice looking but it might just be too nice a story about homeless people could stand to have more grittiness to it.
5. they seem to have depowered him quite a bit if he is getting his ass kicked by non powered thugs.
I did like how they started in media res and then went back and filled in the blanks of the story that was a nice touch.
Well Morbius is trying not to drink blood or he goes berseker mode thats why Noah and his thugs was able to kick his ass, hell maybe thats why he doesn't have the bat-nose anymore from lack of blood. As for his homeless friend maybe he use his vamp mind-control on him out of habit. I still enjoy this (especialy the baby variant) and can't wait for #2.
Kind of torn on this one. I didn't hate the issue, but I really hate when they do a new take on a character, by chossing to ignore what has been done with him before. I have to admit, I have just started reading Dan Slott's Spider-Man about 15 issues ago. so I'm not sure what landed Morbius back in jail... I guess it is something to do with blood lust berserker stuff. But I really enjoyed what Fred Van Lente had done with the character in the Marvel Zombie minis, and what Dennis Hopeless did in his Legion of Monsters mini. Morbius was kind of this full of himself Tony Stark of the supernatural set. I guess that personality doesn't at all fit with what Joe Keatinge wants to do with Morbius, but I think that is way more exciting that making him a street level hero cleaning up a neighborhood of drug pushers.
I do like Richard Elson's art (I think his Spider-Man is as good as anyone has EVER drawn him), but as has been said, I don't know that it is necessarily a good fit for this character.
I love Keatinge's Glory so I really wanted to like this...
It didn't blow me away but I'm interested in seeing where it is going. I didn't know about this book until it shipped, so this "dead vampire" gimmick could go anywhere and that is intriguing. I was never a fan of the Morbius character so I'm more than ready for a re-imagining. Elson's art is always solid but, as said before, I'd rather see quirkier art.
He look like a gothic emo kid now... I'm out.
Not to be a dick, but did anyone else stop reading the review as soon as they saw "Spider-man" wasn't hyphenated?
...just me? Yeah, I need help.
I liked it well enough. I was afraid I wouldn't like it after all the reviews, but when I did get down to reading it, I thought it was pretty fun.
I did like the "de-aging" of Morbius, but I'm going to let Keatinge go for a few issues. I guess I never realized just how much I expect Morbius to sound very formal. However, I remember a few issues and series where Morbius would start off sounding humble, and
...well, that's sorta what happened in FrankenCastle...
In this issue, I get the feeling that Keatinge has a handle on what he wants his set pieces to be, but as for the grand story, I don't see it. However, I think we'll see a much better handling of it in the next few issues.
Also, reading the book with a fake Greek accent did seem to help me see Morbiys speaking so casually.
Thug: Tell... tell my wife i love her...
Spider-man: No.
He's does. Lol.
