SPOILERS ABOUND, enter at your own peril!
It may or may not be a Stephen Rea movie or connected to him somehow.
it´s a british movie, 80s or early 90s, irish maybe and it´s about two late teen friends, a boy and a girl. She has the cutest face, freckles, i think. Maybe a hat.
It takes place in a coastal village where a circus has arrived and the boy finds himself attracted to an older woman sunbathing at the beach, a relation that his father greatly disaproves of and I think they even fight or at least have a great argument over it.
We eventually learn why: she´s in fact the boy's mother who abandoned him as a child.
The girl wants to have her first sexual relation with the stable boy who handles the circus animals (I think she thinks he´s a savage and sex will tame him?) and it all turns out to be a big disappointment.
She also seems to collect words or something, because I seem to recall her saying something like: "I have a new word, pellucid".
Most of the bits I recall are the two teens walking by the beach having these funny esotherical conversations.
There´s a scenne where the two are watching nuns in swimsuits playing in the water at the beach and one of the kids says something funny but I can´t recall what is it that they (she?) said:
"- Do you think they're -- (...)"
For some reason I woke up this morning thinking about that scenne and I really need to complete that sentence.
Help!
