    2. The high sales of the 90's were largely due to the "speculator boom". (Basically, after the fall of the trading card industry, collectors/speculators found their way to the comic market and greatly increased the overall sales to a ludicrous degree. Especially when there were special covers and/or major status quo altering events.) Pretty much EVERY comic at Marvel did well in the 90's.
    3. Ren & Stimpy were a big phenomena and that translated well to our sales on TOP of speculator-driven numbers.

Basically? It was a different time.
    Thanks for weighing in, Dan!

Regardless of the timing and the circumstances, could we agree that if Shooter began the royalties program then he's responsible for the checks Marvel was cutting during the speculator boom?

Joe Q all the way. Shooter's tenure had a lot of great comics but from pretty much all I've heard it was mostly in spite of the guy.

Then you've heard wrong. I'ts no coincidence to me that Marvel started going off track after his departure.

It comes down to style over substance and there was more substance under Shooter's reign because love or hate him, he was a really good writer and had vision.

Definitely Shooter. I associate him with what was good about Marvel. When he left everything went down the toilet. There are not many Marvel comics in the 90s I liked and let alone in the 2000s. Granted, Quesada wasn't responsible for it all. but I feel he didn't make much of a difference.

You heard right. It's no coincidence Marvel started going off the rails during his tenure.
