Pike calling Deathstroke a "second-rate Pike" is hilarious. Gorgeous art by Bennett as usual.

Lol'd. Will be giving a read.
I havent read the previous Hawkman but it looks like they could be using that Pike guy to poke fun at Deadpool kind of.
Wow this book is just soooo bad. I know Hawkman is a character with a long and storied history, but this volume has been such a disaster that they are probably just best off canceling it.
IKR. I've always liked the JSA Hawkman, so this book has been a massive disappointment. Only a combination of Liefeld and Daniel could do this to a book.
Why didn't they give this a new writer for the JLA launch like Green Arrow?
Yeah, or that (instead of canceling). I feel like as long as it has the "Savage" moniker though, they have the wrong idea. The nature of the character right now is so bad. Given Hawkman's history of reincarnation I think they have an easy out where they could kill off this Hawkman, or just send him wherever, and launch a new volume with a new / reincarnated Hawkman.
Is this series ever going to have a solid regular writer? Savage Hawkman #18 has Tom DeFalco listed as it's next writer. Is he a permanent replacement, or will he be gone as well?
Any insiders info? This is embarrasing.![]()

Finally got a chance to read this. Art is amazing. Really one of the best art DC is putting out right now. I loved that splash page of Hawkman perched on a roof. Interesting to see that the Thanagarian Warhawks were slowly resembling the Uruk-hai in Lord of The Rings as their battle goes on. Corsar being alive makes it more interesting.
I think the best thing they can do is kill him off and have him be resurrected on Earth 2. Then you begin his familiar story. Learn that he's been reincarnated and the last time they died was in the previous universe when he lost Shiera to the wind elements.
The handful of people you managed to make care about Hawkman did so because of Brightest Day. Just continue that story and patch it through the reboot.
This isn't the reincarnating Egyptian Hawkman. People need to give that a rest already. The schtick was boring by the time Brightest Day ended (maybe even started), and I hope DC never go back to it.
To the issue at hand: The Savage Hawkman hasn't been bad. It's not great, but it's entertaining enough. This issue was pretty sub-part, though, as has been this crossover as a whole. But that's not because Hawkman is Katar Hol the Thanagarian instead of Prince Khufu the reincarnating Egyptian prince. It's because the dialogue is bad and the pacing is slow as molasses. In other words, it's the talent that's the problem. And if you had the same talent writing a different version of Hawkman, it wouldn't make the quality of the work any better.
As an aside, I cared about Hawkman long before Geoff Johns ever came along. Tim Truman's Hawkworld is still, in my opinion, the definitive Hawkman story, and Tony Isabella's run with the Silver Age version of the character is still the best run Hawkman's ever had in a solo title. The character works fine as Katar Hol; DC just needs to put better talent behind him.

I like the reincarnation/doomed love concept, it makes Hawkman a lot more unique. Though I agree that DC was using it as the base for a bit too many Hawkman stories, just because it's his origin doesn't mean everything has to revolve around it.

This. Also, having Hawkman be Carter Hall doesn't mean Katar Hol has to be abolished or forgotten or merged into his backstory. Just make him a Thanagarian cop working the beat with Fel Andar and use him to explore more of DC's space/alien properties. Use the Hawkworld title for a book. Keep the Nth Metal as the tie between Thanagar and the Halls, plus the Fietherans as a possible Thangarian colony/refugee city, depending on what incarnation of Thanagar you're using. Maybe have the Hawkgod be Horus and Onimar Synn be Set, and do a "Thanagar comes from Egypt or inspired Egypt" thing like the Goa'uld/Stargate concept. So many ways it could be played with, really.
