Talking of cars, my 2002 Saturn has a leaking head gasket that will cost more to repair than the car is worth. Any suggestions on purchasing a new compact car for commuting?

Also Hockey is enjoyable, but definetly low-tier to me compared to the glory that is Pro-football or basketball. Baseball doesn't even rate, unless I'm there or buzzed or A-Rod isn't playing.

Yeah, that's out of the price range. I was hoping to spend in the $15 k to $16 k range.

It may pay for itself if I drove it everyday, but it is more of a commuting car for my wife to make small trips and errands as well as drive to her parent's to help her mom take care of her dad.

I am going to keep taking mass transit most of the time.

If you drive enough. With how much I drive and the current cost of gas here it'd take me 7 years to make up the difference compared to a similar sedan but I imagine it'd be much less with someone who drives in the city more and lives in CA.

I have a 2002 Corolla (well, a Chevy Prizm, but it's the same thing) with 200K miles and I like it pretty well and it's needed very little in the way of repairs. My biggest complaint about it is that I got pressured (or maybe guilted) into buying one on the lot, rather than holding out for a standard transmission or 4-speed that would've had better mileage on the highway (which is more than half my driving). But then, gas was a lot cheaper back then.
