Yup. That's up here on the Northern heights of Wuppertal, right next to the school where I am working today.

Fire is actually good for most forests by removing old or dying vegetation which allows new growth of healthier trees and plants by opening up the canopy. Also, certain conifers spread their seed through fire, the heat causes the cones to burst open, spreading the seeds throughout (pines and even redwoods do this, although with redwoods it is much more common for new growth to emerge from the root system); nothing like seeing a pine explode while fighting a fire. Fire also stops most catastrophic fires, unless the land is in a drought condition and even then the damage tends to less; when there are regular small fires the likelihood of a BIG one is reduced. Here in California the Parks and Forestry stage controlled burns, depending on the location these are either brush pile burns or acreage burns, this helps prevent catastrophic fires in parks and wildlands near metropolitan areas. They also, and the national forestry as well, no longer immediately jump to stop any and all wildfires unless life or property is in eminent danger. A lot was learned after the BIG Yellowstone fire.

As to animals, well, yeah, some die in forest fires; the weak, the old, or the very young if the fire happens in the spring or early summer- which usually happens during a significant drought period and then, frankly, the entire forest is in a unhealthy state for new life. Nature is nature.

What have I always believed? That, on the whole, and by and large, if a person lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out ok.

Like finding a fucking treasure chest, full of dressed up nerds!

That's really awesome. I envy people who can take their nerdy passion and turn it into a paying gig. They haven't done modeling or calendars, but they do get paid to go to some conventions, and his wife got a job at a wig making place in Chicago, who sets up booths at conventions, so now she does that. My passion is to get all my nerd friends laid, and to capture them forever.

Yay! Matt has a crush! I've known him since he was 14, so I can't really look at him like that. He liked dinosaurs. However, I'd be happy to supply you with some more light porn. This one has leather straps. You're welcome.
That's actually a wig, lmao. My IRL hair is currently much shorter. I'm kinda trying something new right now, which I'm sure will lead into a series of hilarious rants over the next few months.

And the whole cosplay-hobby is crazy fun! I went into it to making new friends/get laid and obviously it totally worked out for me. Plus obviously I love conventions, so there's that. I actually just dropped $130 something dollars last night on material and stuff last night for a new costume, BECAUSE I AM DUMB!

And if you don't mind me asking, do you know the name of the wig company she's employed at? I'm curious if it's my friend's company, or something else (and odds are I'll be at a con she'll be working out in Chicago come April, lol).

Yeah... I keep knocking on wood. I did not catch my colleague's cough, I have not been affected be the ongoing pinkeye epidemic in my town, I have not had a cold since April. But working with teenagers and using public transport, that's mostly pure luck and partly a healthy immune system.

So a whole lot of people got flu shots, and then the flu mutated, so the flu shot is worthless. Meanwhile, there is also some stomach flu going around.

That stomach flu shit is awful. Damn parents who bring sick kids to a party full of healthy people!

I'd still get the flu shot because there are several strains going around and the CDC, as of Jan. 11th, still says it's 62% effective. Now, that may have decreased a bit if new mutations have been discovered since their testing period, but it's still some kind of protection for relatively inexpensive price.
It's wanting to know that makes us matter. Otherwise we're going out the way we came in. That's why you can't believe in the afterlife. Believe in the after, by all means, but not the life. Believe in God, the soul, the spirit, the infinite, believe in angels if you like, but not in the great celestial get-together for an exchange of views. If the answers are in the back of the book I can wait, but what a drag. Better to struggle on knowing that failure is final. - Hannah, Arcadia
