It's awards season and Frankenweenie is up for a BAFTA, so we've had non-stop calls from the press for the last two days! Yesterday we had a TV crew haunting the workshop for most of the day, producing a whole 2 minutes for the evening news. I continue to build up my TV profile 1 second at a time!

Yay! Great news! *twirl* What's a BAFTA? Is that Best Animated Film... T... Acadamy? Didn't it get nominated for an Oscar too? Is that what a BAFTA is? Oooh... do you get to go to the Oscars?! This is so exciting!! I don't know why, because I'm not going, but YAY!

You should totally represent and dress up as Optimus Prime in a tux.

Frank Sobotka is such a great character.

I kept hearing that Season 5 was the weakest... but yeah, I love Season 2. It's such a different viewpoint, too. Gives a really nice rounded view of the city, and shows the outlying effects of all the stuff in Season 1. And I love Frank, he's just one of many characters in the season who wants desperately to do the right thing but every time he gets into the position where he CAN do something, circumstances tie his hands.

Who's Ian Edginton and what's a D'Israeli, and will I like it?

Ian Edginton is a British comics writer. He's very, very versatile and writes a very wide variety of stories across a lot of different genres.
D'Israeli is (the pen-name of) a British comics artist and frequent collaborator with Mister Edginton. His art is quirky and distinctive with a strong line. Reminds me a little of Harvey Kurtzman, now that I think of it.
Probably their best know work was 'Scarlet Traces', which was a sequel to HG Wells 'War of the Worlds'.

I loved The Wire, but it's been many years since I watched it, so I don't even remember who Frank Sobotka was.

He was the leader of the dockworkers' union. Chris Bauer is a spectacular actor and just acted the shit outta that role.

I understand why they were there from a story perspective but I could not stand Nicky or especially Ziggy. I liked the Docks story on the whole. I always felt season 5 was weaker than 2

Yeah, Nicky was pretty damn bland, but the scene where Ziggy REALLY fucks up is absolutely masterful. Just the scene with him sitting in the car.
With a story like 'The Wire', it's very easy to just have it be about the corners and the hoppers. Make it just a black inner city thing, but I loved how Simon expanded it outward, so show that it's not JUST a story about selling drugs on corners, and there are ties to industry, education, labour, the media, politics, law-enforcement... it's not a black thing. It's not an inner city thing. It's a BIGGER thing than that, and it'll need a bigger solution than just rounding people up and putting them in cells.
