Default Why was Black Widow Attacking Air Force One in TBolts?

Did we ever find out why Natasha was impersonating Yelena Belova in the TBolts while being a double agent for Nick Fury? What was Fury's plan? To get back at the POTUS for losing his job as DoS? If so isn't it a backhanded piece of villainy to attack the POTUS that way, that still made Norman Osborn look good and take suspicion away from the Green Goblin?

It was to get onto Norman's good side.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury could have got Natasha to sabotage the operation and Norman Osborn would be out on his keister. Then Nick wouldn't have to deal Osborn at all.

I don't think any larger plan was ever revealed (unless I'm forgetting some crucial detail). It's all moot though, as she was exposed on account of the inept performance of one Songbird.

Being vindictive to the potus by not sabotaging the Osborn mission was showing that Nick Fury had no duty to country or his leader. Nick Fury had more duty to his own agenda, rather than the short circuit of the Dark Reign in America.

How about "They had to drag Dark Reign out because it was selling well"

Nick Fury is no patriot. He's had his own agenda since the day he joined SHEILD. His loyalty lies in the security of the greater good, not to any one country or man.

If it suited his interests that POTUS died for the saftey of the population, he's be okay with that. He makes the tough calls. That's why Steve was never any good at the job as Director.

dude. what are you talking about? are you forgetting that Norman was impersonating Nick Fury? he's the one that set up the attack on Air Force One; with the intent of winning the president's favor. Natasha went along with it because she knew that the plan wasn't to kill the president. they wanted to discredit Doc Samson and arrange for Norman to personally save the prez. Fury did nothing wrong.

Well, reality, yeah. There is that.

But what plausible explanation does Nick Fury have for not doing something about Osborn?

Yes, I did forget about that, but Fury did come in around the back of that cross over with Secret Warriors, so Nick had his chance then too. And I'm not convinced Natasha, if she knew it wasn't Fury, she would contact Nick and they would have done something on Air Force One.
