Best of luck and best wishes to Mr. David.
And Marvel, if it turns out he'll never be able to resume work on X-Factor, I kindly suggest putting out a final issue after his last completed script that is just 21 pages of "And they all lived happily ever after" and give the proceeds to a charity dealing with stroke victims and their families.
Well, my father after very similar stroke returned to work rather quickly (2 months), but it depends on the individual.
Before the stroke my father was right-handed, now he is left-handed. The next 48 hours are the most important for PAD, because they will define hix next 10 years. And after next 48 hours everything will depend on PAD's will. He cannot give up!

Say No to decompressed storytelling!
It's good yo hear that his mind mind is intact. It is so scary not knowing what is wrong with your loved ones, and this story renforces that if you think you may be having a stroke, you need to seek help as soon as possible. It is wonderful that there is more help for stroke victims than ever before, but I hope we all take this as a warning to take strokes as a realistic risk, even if you're young and healthy.
That being said, it's so sad that something like this happened to such a great writer!
Best of luck and my hopes for a speedy recovery for Mr. David. One option he might want to consider is acupuncture, as studies have shown it can have a dramatic impact on helping to reverse/mitigate the consequences of a stroke in some people. Regardless, I've enjoyed his work in comics for a very long time, and hope he will be able to return to good health as quickly as possible.
Glad to hear he was in good humor and had the nurses laughing.
Peter David strikes me as the Hal Jordan of the comic book professionals circuit, someone with a lot of willpower.
Thoughts and prayers continuing to go out for one of the greats.

Bret Hart suffered a similar stroke after minor bike accident in 2002, losing all mobility on his left side. He's consequently made quite the recovery, even wrestling a match (albeit not his best!) in 2010. Perhaps others reading this will find his story interesting:

I know Peter and his family have a long road ahead, but recovery is very possible. And I certainly believe he'll continue his unparalleled run on X-Factor after all this is over, if he even decides to take a break at all!
My best to Peter and his family. These are never easy circumstances to deal with.
PAD is by far my favorite comic book writer. All the best to your recovery. I'm glad he still has his wits with him.
Best wishes and support for Peter and his family. Glad he's got the spirit and will still strong in him.
Schmitty's Evil Twin.
My best wishes to him and his family. Strokes are tough, we found my nan on the toilet having gone in the night and then got struck with one. She was woozy, couldn't talk, hold her head up or stand. Then she got pneumonia while in hospital. She survived that but she wasn't the same again.
Thanks to Kathleen for the update - with a great partner, family, friends, fans and his irrepressible nature, Peter has a good chance of moving forward. All the best for 2013.
