Ah okay, I misunderstood your post then.

Wayne is revealed to be philanthropic in TDKR with the charity for orphaned boys (the one that John Blake grew up in). I guess I get your point, that a philanthropic and productive Bruce is more "likable" than dumb playboy Bruce, but that's not very entertaining to watch and doesn't really highlight the conflict between how the public sees Bruce, versus how he really is (which is kind of core to the dynamic of the Batman character, IMO).

I always felt George Clooney was the best Batman in the worst Batman movie. My pants explode imagining the greatness of a serious Clooney in a more serious toned movie. He just looks him the best too, because of his masculine features, he couldve been great.

Him and Bale as stated before are the top two actors, being Oscar winners.

In terms of role I think Val Kilmer had the best or 2nd best. His Bruce Wayne was dedicated, a philanthropist, and respected. Just as the Waynes in the comics, and that includes Bruce.

Bales was the worst in my opinion, not doing more than being a bumbling goof. Which isnt even accurate, in no media has Bruce been portrayed as THAT much of no brainier. Bruce has always been respectable in the comics. Plus when you think of it as a character its inconsistent, as important as his family name is to him and the town he wouldent want to embarrass them like that all the time. Plus he was just pretty much Batman 24/7 there wasnt really any Bruce Wayne.

But Keaton nails it over all with role and acting ability. Nearly perfect, the most believable out of all. You could believe the guy was The Batman, he let the emotion do the talking, you could see it all over his behavior that he had the need to be Batman. He was a little odd, but Batmans gimmick is strange, thats the aspect behind his costume and original concept. Everyone was consistant, to his interactions with crowds, his lonesome interactions, and his romantic relationships. It all just flowed.

Bale was the best Bruce Wayne. But Keaton was the best Batman.

Michael Keaton's acting was damn good in those movies, but I can't like his Batman at all thanks to the writing/directing.

Adam West is my choice. I thought he did a great job as Bruce Wayne and he played as Bruce alot more than anyone else. Keaton and Kilmer were both pretty good, but i hated Bale and Clooney's take on Bruce Wayne.

I feel like I'm always piping up for the job Keaton did in '89.

I thought Bale would have been a perfect Bruce Wayne, given American Psycho, but he had little charm or humor. Though I would say he seemed under appreciated in Dark Knight.

He is also still the only guy to play Batman that looks like he could actually win a fist fight.

Bale's performance has to take into consideration a man who set out to play the part of someone who he absolutely wasn't in reality. "What does someone like me do?" he asked Alfred, and Alfred said, "Drive sportcars, date moviestars, buy things that are not for sale." So Bale's Bruce set out to play the mindless billionaire playboy while simultaneously being Batman. He was effectively playing two aliases at once beyond the identity he was born with. People who complain about Bale's portrayal of Bruce Wayne should realize that that was just as much a performance on his part as was his portrayal of Batman. The real core of the character he was playing can only be seen in the little kid watching both his mother and father blown away before his eyes. And off the top of my head I don't recall what that child actor's name was, but he did a wonderful job and should be considered alongside all the adults in any assessment of who played the best Bruce Wayne.
