I was making a joke so I picked a generic name.
Academia is wonderful but when you're pursuing a career in it it's not. There's a bunch of competition, it's very cutthroat and there's a whole lotta politics. I mean... A lot...
So I'm not sure. I've come a long way so I probably will stick with it.
Doc Ock - I'm Peter Parker.
Peter Parker - Not anymore Spider-Man. From now on I'm Peter Parker.

I cannot recommend Scarlet Spider enough, but here's trying.
Oh Jason, thank you so much. That's so nice of you. Right now I really can't swing it but ill let you know in the future. I do have the Martin variant because its drop dead gorgeous and living so close to the city helps finding anything. Midtown comics still have a bunch of variants.

It's hard to find a tenure-track position in most fields and it's pretty much publish or perish, and of course ironically you really have to conform to the hegemonic schools of thought that your tenured colleagues ascribe to, lest you be ostracized and denied tenure as not mainstream generally = difficult path to tenure and respect. Plus the pay sucks until you're established and it sometimes feels like a high school clique all over again. But I guess you already know that.
Darn I was hoping to hear an awesome story of someone getting their heart stomped.![]()
OMD has been holding out on us.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!
If nihilism didn't take some delight in destruction one might suspect nihilists were an unnaturally morbid sort.

My understanding was most colleges/universities were going the adjunct route now as tenure isn't cost effective for them. I'm a high school teacher for now and happy with that. I could see later in life me retiring for high school and going into lecturing part time at a school. That is what almost all my professors were. Who knows where life will take me though.

Looks like the 1:200 Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man #700 variant has lit up eBay. 69 have been sold so far with most fetching several hundred dollars and one over $1K. There's a current retailer with a "buy it now" of $1,150. Wow. Is the recession over? :)
I am looking forward to picking up an issue out of a bargain bin (kinda sarcasm).
This is an old story in comics collecting. Remember Death of Superman? Remember Spawn #1? etc. Any time people are picking up multiple copies of new books for collecting, it is a sign that the market will die. Don't buy the hype.
And it continues! This is just madness. I can't believe people are even bidding on these.

It's only going for a lot cause people want to read the book. But, Ditko's variant might stand up the test of time.
It was the same thing with the Human Torch and Cap's Death. After a bit, I was able to hunt down some 1st prints for just a little more than they were worth at cover price.
Once more prints come out, the price will drop dramatically.
