I'm glad to hear it, I buy to read as well but with this kind of book I could almost justify slabbing it.

I've read about this issue, and have even seen scans of the art but to be able to actually read it? That would blow me away. You'll have to document your experience in your Bat-Thread, I'd love to read your reaction.

I buy my key issues in low grade, both because I can't rationalize spending more than I already am for them and because I then have no reason to fear when reading them.

Heh. I've never really found the words to describe that sensation. I read Star Spangled Comics #65 (1st ever Robin solo story) just the other month and was speechless about that too. I still have a Batman #8, 9, and 10 in my collection that I haven't had the guts to take out and read yet.

That's a pretty good way to buy.

And I'll say it again: Wow.

I'm seriously jealous of your collection right now.

Well, during the year I put together Alan Moore's entire run of (Saga of the) Swamp Thing and read it. When I went to read #20 I got a really nice surprise inside the front cover. Looks to be legit. Not usually a fan of autographs, but I have to admit this is pretty cool.

I finally tracked this GN last year as well. I paid 32.95 plus shipping for it. It's probably in Fine shape and also happens to sport cover artist Joe Jusko's signature on the cover. The Buscema art is pretty wonderful, though I am still not sure if I like The Rogue better than the Gary Kwapisz drawn The Witch Queen of Acheron.

Good deal! Storywise maybe, but the all-Buscema art does it for me.

It's looking like the deal of the year for me was picking up Amazing Spider-Man 700 (the Ditko variant) for $220.

Considering Witch queen has Conan meet prince Tarascus two decades too early, it's no contest for this particular continuity nut!

The art on both was pretty good, though.

I did incredibly well in the dollar bin this year including one sale where I thought the LCS must need to make a rent payment because I got all the Byrne FF's , Avengers 202-237 and 50+ Marvel Team ups for fifty cents each in pretty much unread condition... but these are dollar/two dollar comics regardless so deal of the years was Amazing Spider Man Annuals 14 and 15 for 75 cents each in about 9.0/9.2 condition.

Whoa...well done, its current asking price is over a thousand (so it's the one I don't have...yet...)

    Wow.

And only sixty dollars more than what I paid for World's Finest #2...

Sometimes I think collecting classic comics and collecting modern comics are two entirely separate hobbies taking place in two entirely different realities.

Well if you factor in the type of book the Ditko variant is, they are different realities. The Spidey book that killerbass got was available in a 1:200 ratio...meaning there are only an estimated 1,250 Ditko copies (out of an estimated print run of 250,000 copies). Whereas no one thought about variants back in the Golden Age...

I really don't mean to knock his purchase, nor the behavior of collectors of modern day comics. The logic just escapes me. Take this 1:200 ratio book, for example, when compared to my purchase of World's Finest #2:

    1. I have to imagine that there aren't all that many copies of WF #2 out there either
    2. There's no inherent substance behind the collectibility of this issue. it's just the fact that it has artificially created scarcity. Question the logic of collecting floppy funny books in the first place but, assuming there's logic in doing that, WF #2 is a very significant comic. It's the beginning of something that lasted for over forty years and is well loved and remembered by many. Spidey #700 is a stunt that will be undone within two years.

Granted, if it makes you happy, and/or if it makes you money, who am I to complain? I just don't get how these two books go for similar amounts of money.
