Pretty much the same thing, but he gets in a few good shots.

Not to mention that when Cap goes against Kang, Loki, or whoever in the comics, Cap knows he isn't going to win. He does it out a sense of defiance, or to hold the line until backup can arrive.

Movie Cap actually expects/is expected to do well, but he doesn't. Ultimately, he looks like someone who got in over his head.

Like we see Hawkguy and BW get their "this is nothing we were ever trained for" moment, but Cap's just like "Suit up let's go!". Personally, I think that's the man, not the serum.[/QUOTE]

That's not entirely accurate. Natasha is pretty dead set on going after Loki before Cap shows up, despite not being trained for it.

That's true, but she still acknowledges how out of their depth it is. Steve doesn't really seem like he gave it a second thought.

There were a few comedic beats I didn't really like, mainly hulk related, but overall I liked it. I recently watched it a second time and thought it was a better movie than the first time I watched it. Still not worth buying, to me, but I thought it was entertaining, which is all I really ask from a film these days.

It's "cool" to hate on anything that successful, and to pick out every little flaw, both real and imaginary.

I'd say most of the people who didn't like The Avengers had that attitude before they ever saw the movie. Fact is, it was far more successful than any superhero movie has ever been, and it deserved to be.

On these forums, anything superhero related seems to largely suffer from criticism, with complains about virtually anything. Are people focusing too much on minor things, or are my standards simply too low as a newcomer to the comic book/superhero industry?

It's not just you. On the internet, it seems the only way to prove how big a 'fan' you are of anything is to pick the absolute crap out of it.

Okay, but there's something to be said about doubting yourself and then doing something anyway.

It's a difficult question to answer because we don't weigh every criticism the same. What may be important for one person isn't necessarily important for another. When you have so many different opinions a lot of them will look trivial depending on the stuff you value. Another common theme is for people to feed off of each other, rapidly escalating a problem, and growing it in size (see Spider-Man forums). There is no clear cut answer to that question other then to ignore the topics that don't interest you and trying not to take everything to seriously.

Oh most certainly, not taking anything away from Nat, just saying that Cap not doubting himself at all is also pretty impressive.

Though to many that just makes him boring.

It's the same on all forums, on every subjects. Hell I go to sport forums and it's far worse.

The fact that the univeral response at the time of it's release (from fan and casual movie goer alike) was "Wow" is really all that matters.

Disecting it now is a futile and ridiculous effort. Any critique now is soa far from objective. It's actually impossible to formulate an unbiased POV (save going out into the bush and finding a lost tribe....whose reaction I assure you will still be "Wow").
I'm the opposite, I think it is at its most interesting time to disect a movie. You can really go deep and look at something far beyond the initial hype. That's what a critical mind should be all about. Every movie critics should wait a few months after a movie to do their stuff. In fact do two critics, when the movie have come out and another one much later to go back and see if you changed your mind and see what the movie was really about.

I wouldn't say boring, exactly. But I think its a character trait that works better when it influences others.
