I would like to see a period in Marvel where Nick Fury is eventually decommissioned from the Army and what happens in the new world after WW11. Before WW11 Nick Fury and Red worked as daredevil pilots, doing wing walking shows around the country. After the War, Red was dead, and Nick had new friends, and these friends were good for one thing, and it wasn't flying in air shows. One wonders if some general came up to Nick and said to him, "there is a secret project going on that wants to make super men like Captain America used to be, (because he's dead, now). What do ya say? You wanna get in on the ground floor?"
It could be series on the pre-super heroes that Howard Stark and Nathaniel Richards were involved with, that made dud super heroes until the real breakthrough came in 1961 when Nathaniel used his own son to test the first evolution of the super heroes. Nick could be the security detail, that hunts down the faulty super heroes. It would fit very well with why the POTUS sacked Nick Fury after Secret War, because Bush wanted the man in the know to be gone while America places the super heroes in lock down with the SHRA. The real reason the SHRA was put into place wasn't just the public outcry, but because the heroes were getting too conceited and uppity, and had to be told they belong to the state, and made to behave that way.
The real Illuminati were Osborn, Egghead, Doctor Octavius, Nathaniel Richards, Howard Stark. Nobody knows the secret history of the Marvels, but it lies in that period just after 1946, when the experiments started to seed the world with super powered people. The Monster era was the failures, of these experimenters, who got close to making the real deal, but never quite got there. SHIELD was formed about the time the Fantastic Four came into play, when they knew they had succeeded, and Nick Fury had a new toy with which to monitor his play things.
