Plenty of these sorts out there at any sporting event. Shoot, plenty of these sorts out there in general. The US in particular is an amazingly overweight nation, in the main. The most unrealistic thing in crowd shots in most movies, I find, is the lack of fat people.

in all seriousness, there are "fans" in any form of entertainment that are way too invested in that entertainment. It's just that sports are seen as an acceptable adult activity, while comics are sometimes not. I think they're both childish and hate them both

I'm not angry over "Dying Wish" I just think it's really funny. Too many people kept saying that Spidey's marriage to M.J. was not "realistic" for an "Every-Man" that they said Spidey was supposed to be--then they go on to put out a bizarre story like "Dying Wish"--just five years after another Bizarro World story like OMD was published! (And yes, I am including OMIT in that equation because I consider it a companion to OMD.) To me, that just shows blatant disrespect toward the readers.

They said they didn't care if they lost older fans of "Classic Spidey" (like myself) because they were trying to attract new readers. So what are they saying to these "New Readers"-- that they will buy anything Marvel puts out so why make the effort of putting out a decent story? Or maybe that these new fans can care less how good or bad a story is, just put any old version of Spider-Man in it or on the cover and they will keep on buying? In either case these new readers have the right to be angry! I think they collect comics for the same reason we do or used to: it's a pleasant, temporary escape from "real world" concerns.

Personally, I'm reserving my real anger for the numbskulls who seem determined to throw our country off the so-called "Fiscal Cliff". I express any anger over a given direction in a comic book I used to collect, by DROPPING IT from my shopping list! I can only do so much about Collective Congressional Stupidity but I can do something quickly about a sucky comic book!

I think a lot of the anger about motivations is misplaced, often based on a misunderstanding of what was said in the first place. If a pro made an argument about what works for a character, it's not meant to be applied in every single story.

Although that also extends to most arguments. People rarely remember the nuances of those they disagree with.

Their words. Someone can tell someone off and never have consequences. I could say anything I wanted to you and never face real repercussions because I'll never meet you. It's a level of "safety" and "comfort" that removes many people's filters.

I don't know if that's entirely true. If you're part of the community for some time, you'll get to know people over months and years. So that should make it tougher to tell someone off, since you're likely to continue interacting with them in the future.

Although this only applies to posters who are active in a particular community. And one aspect of the internet is that it's easier to pick and choose who to talk to. You can't put coworkers or classmates on ignore lists.
