I havent bought a new marvel comic since then - i do get the British reprints (mostly for cost sake and the fact they are card bound so easy to look after too) and i have enjoyed a good deal of the avengers and hulk stuff, especially since the sentry was removed.

I have really liked how they have brought Spider Woman, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to the fore and really like how Carol Danvers has developed.

Conversely my feelings about the X- Men as a whole but especially Scott leave little to be desired.

When I was a kid there was always a feeling among me and friends that certain things in Marvel were special, unlike say DC (not a dig just a comparison). Marvel didn't retcon, and there were 3 deaths that stayed permanent, Bucky as the first major child death, CM as the first major death from a real illness and Uncle Ben. Buckys return has been a little mixed but after my initial rage (and it really was that) I have liked how he has developed. CM has passed on the mantle as a true hero and I love that. And Bens still gone.

I cant dislike all of Marvel - but I have permanently lost my affection for Spiderman because hes so removed from what I knew it may as well be another character. And take the powers away - IMO it really is.

I wouldn't mind if they invented a new character and wrote great new stories but this just feels like emotional blackmail (buy the book coz of who it was or what the masthead says).

I cant complain at people liking it - that's their right and Marvels right to do as they see fit with their characters. In fact I get more angry at people who complain and then still buy the book - the only rightful way to object is to keep your money in your pocket.

    Sorry for ranting.
I agree with when you said with the complaints and still buying the book to fuel more complaints instead of not buying as a form of protest, i am not buying "new" Spider-man Comic, i will keep a look out for Peter's return for we all know that Marvel can't be stupid enough to let this stand for God knows how long, the center will not hold and we will see the one true Spider-man return.

I know this is a business, i know that change is always happening i have come accept that in this industry that used to bring me such entertaining moments but now? I just don't know if i will recover from this latest blow. I recovered from Jean Grey being killed off after being back stabbed by Frost and Summers, i recovered when they killed Spidey the first time, i recovered when Wolverine stopped being cool in my eyes, i did so during CW and DR...but after reading AvX and this? I don't know, i really don't know if i can.

Is it wrong for the tradionalists to rage against this? Is it wrong for the new comers to approve of it? i can't answer for them, no one can as we do not have that right to speak for them...but i will say this for myself, i will stop reading Spider-man until the day comes when Peter returns to his rightful place, i will not read X-men until they are made whole again and fight for the dream once more, i will not read Avengers until they understand what it means to be heroes again.

I am comic book reader of several years now, i loved Marvel because their characters (Heroes and Villains alike) were more human than the DC franchise (take this comment as you wish). Some things i loved and some things i hated, but at the end of it all i knew that they would always come back to the things i loved the most about them but this i cannot.

I know the cycle will have us see our heores as they once were, when will that be? Who knows, but to all the fans old and new, i say keep a watchful eye for that day...we will see that day come.

Good day to you all and happy New Year as well.

The truth is that Marvel will stand for this as long as the people paying 20 bucks for it on ebay, or buying it in the store are giving them their dollars. There are apparently people very excited that Peter is finally gone. I'm not one of them, but apparently, there are enough of them that the story has enough money to continue... I don't like it, as I'm kind of a traditionalist with it too, but unfortunately, I had to come to the conclusion that Peter's dead, and he's not coming back. Period.

What if you're an old timer who loved the story? #700 was just fantastic, I spontaneously feel the whole story was the best since Kraven's Last Hunt or something.

I mean, it's not that Peter won't return pretty soon...

This is so weird. I don't mean to pick on you, but this is such a common geek thing to have a completely bizarre take on ficatio/art and head/heart.

A "reasoned response?" Sorry - was this a scientific study? A historical treatise? A term paper?

It's art - it's for, about, addressing, and generally-all-about what you call "emotional" baggage. That's the point.

If you really read a work of fiction, look at a piece of art, or listen to a piece of music and have a "Reasoned" conversation with yourself about what your "Emotional" response will be... well, that's either really sad, or it suggests you don't really understand the meaning of the words.

Again - its really not fair of me to single you out, but its so common at boards like this where someone expresses their emotional response to an emotionally charged book, and the response from those who had a different response is that they're a) being irrational, b) only feel that way because they aren't intelligent enough to understand, or are c) "biased."

Responses in order are: a) duh, b) WTF?!, and c) double-duh!!! Criminy!

Sorry - I'm sure your a terrific human being, and as I said I don't mean to pick on you... it just happened to get to me at this particular moment. Nothing personal.

Doesn't this response contain some of the very "bullshit emotional baggage" you say you wish there was less of?

I haven't followed this series, but I wanted to read this one issue, just because it's the last issue and to see what leads up to Superior Spider-man. If I just picked up this issue, would I be confused?
Current Favorites:: The Walking Dead, Batman, Thief of Thieves, Saga, Revival, Animal Man, Avengers Arena, Justice League, All-New Xmen, Uncanny Avengers, AVX,

You really need 698-700 for the story that concludes in 700.

I'd skip straight to SSM1, frankly.

All we lacked in ASM 700 was the moment when we realize that Ock only tried to destroy Christmas because he didn't get that pony he asked for.
