In fairness, a lot of OMD-rage seems to center around Peter's compromising of his own principles in making a deal with Mephisto. It's a lot harder to make a similar claim about "Dying Wish", where Parktopus literally fought to his last breath to prevent an impending tragedy. You can argue that the set-up is stupid, but it's a lot hard to argue the Pete compromised his heroism.

I think OMD is still the Golden Mean of fan rage.

ASM 700 seems like a temporary development, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

So you won't have upset readers in five years any more than you have readers upset that Bucky died in Fear Itself.

There's still going to be some anger directed at OMD as the marriage is unlikely to come back, and some readers did prefer it.
    Sincerely,

I voted for OPTION 4! I wasn't reading the book so I missed the train wreck! But the term OMD will forever be a bench mark of when the wheels actually came off! Even if Marvel HAD undid OMD they couldn't get past the fact that Peter Parker literally made a deal with The Devil. And yes, that's who Stan Lee wanted Mephisto to be a stand-in for and admitted it in SON OF ORIGINS (although I always thought Dormammu was always a more awesome character!). No matter how good or bad SPIDEY 700 may be, there's simply no getting around that.

Still, 700 is a pretty darn AWFUL idea! I wish Alonso had stuck with his first instincts. That kind of story has been done in The FANTASTIC FOUR on more than one occasion and it just barely worked there--it NEVER should have been considered for Spider-Man!

    *R--I--N--G*

THAT sound you hear is Marvel's phone ringing. It's DAN DiDIO calling to make Marvel an offer to sell the company to DC! I hope the first thing he does is fire all the editors. Or at least hire JIM SHOOTER to act as an Executive Editor at Marvel--someone who can veto any cornball ideas that reach his desk!

You give the readers too little credit.

We can complain about everything at once!

Well, not only did he ignore Ghost-Ben's warning, he let a lunatic walk around with his face and mask, doing the exact opposite of what Ben told him to do. If that isn't irresponsible, I don't know what is.

The only counter argument I've heard about this is that he wasn't thinking straight. Because he was dying and stuff.

When it comes down to it, Dying Wish is way more compromising than OMD. OMD was Peter sitting around while his wife made all the decisions. This is... This.

You say that as if he didn't spend the entire issue trying to prevent the outcome. Parktopus fought until his body was beef jerky, then continued to fight by weaponizing his legacy. It's not like letting Spock go was Plan A.

I'm going to say no as I believe people will still hate OMD. People hate the fact Doc ock won. The two endings have evil winning that is part of why the ideas are so hated. Mephisto got what he wanted in OMD, and ASM700 had Doc Ock becoming a karma houdini. I hope this change is temporary but Marvel has disapointed me before so I won't hold my breath and instead simply not buy the new Spider-Man.

He literally didn't even say, "Don't pretend to be me, that's creepy." Nothing in the issue prevented that. Nor did anything prevent him from leaving warnings to his friends and family, his half-assed attempt with Carlie withstanding.

It shows a blatant disregard that Peter would endanger people like that. I mean obviously if he had just told Ock not to do it, Ock would likely have just ignored him. But at least it would show he was concerned about the thing he was shitting his pants about not one issue ago (when he imagined Ock snapping Cap's neck, for example) and when Ock DOES do what he's not supposed to, Peter's words will haunt him. The 180 from "Ock is going to poison Aunt May" to "Ock will definitely not abuse my identity for his selfish ends, and it's okay to let him be me" was not logical.

Could Peter have called on anyone for help? He knows a lot of telepaths and smart people, they could probably have switched him back.

As to complaining... I've noticed that people who like the issue (or in fact any story that they liked and others did not like) will refer to any criticism or complaint as 'Bitching' or 'kvetching' as a way to minimize or dismiss the honest feelings of fellow fans. That's not going to make it go away or make it any less valid.

Spidey's 50th Anniversary sure ended with a THUD!

    Bad movie reboot: STRIKE ONE!

Bad ending to a possibly decent compilation (SPIDER-ISLAND. That Venom sequence was unnecessary): STRIKE TWO!

Bad idea six ways from Sunday (DYING WISH): STRIKE THREE!

If he wants to stay on good terms with Marvel, I imagine Stan Lee will be diplomatic about it but somewhere Steve Ditko must be furious! Maybe we'll get a new issue of TSK, TSK! or STRANGE AVENGING TALES out of it.

It won't last, as obviously this is not going to have much long term effects, unlike say OMD or to a lesser degree, sins past.

Also its weird to see people call people with dissenting opinions trolls. I mean I could call you sycophants but that doesn't really get us anywhere so I don't see the point.
