Today's Cartoons

I think both 90's and the 2000's had some great cartoons. 90's had X-Men, Batman, Superman, etc. Things from the year 2000 and on..we had things like Justice League, X-Men Evolution, Wolverine and the X-Men, The Avengers, Young Justice, Avatar, both Clone Wars series, Ben 10, Spectacular Spider-man, etc.

I will say cartoons nowadays seem to bit more suited for both kids and adults.

Sorry but Batman the Animated series, Gargoyles, Exo Squad, Beast Wars, Freakazoid and a few others from that era will ALWAYS be some of the greatest cartoons E V E R.

And other generations will hold up cartoons from their eras and say they are better.

They can think that the cartoons they watch now are good, sure, like kids now like Justin Bieber and think that is the awesomest but the Beatels are not going to be moved from their spot by him ever. The same goes with these cartoons.

a few stipulations:

1. no anime...not that it isn't awesome, but I wanted to see what we considered good in western cartoons.

I had a blast just last weekend watching hours of YouTube provided Rocky & Bullwinkle, Super Chicken, Dudley Do-Right, the original George of the Jungle. Sometimes nostalgia fogs up reality....sometimes it was just as good as you remembered.

but I watched Sky Surfer Strike Force recently and it was ok, cheesy but ok

The only cartoons of the 2000s that I like are the holdovers from the 90s... with the possible only exceptions of X-Men Evolution and Bob's Burgers.

I'll still watch the hell out of Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Pinky & the Brain, and DW.

With a few exceptions here and there (such as Adventure Time, Spectacular Spidey, & Avengers: EMH) I tend to think the 90's era cartoons were better.

Batman: TAS speaks for itself.
Superman: TAS was pretty great as well.
Freakazoid honestly was kind of ahead of its time I thought.
Pinky & The Brain, Ren & Stimpy, Johnny Bravo, and Rocko's Modern Life all had levels of humor that worked for multiple audiences.
The Tick was simply fantastic.

There's definitely stuff from the 90's that feels super dated now (looking at you, X-Men), but the stuff from then felt a bit less mindless than a lot of the stuff I see today.

Actually, the 90's and the early 00's both had good cartoons. Heck, I still watch 80's animated shows as well. I love the both the original ThunderCats and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I also still enjoy the original Gerry Anderson Thunderbirds, Speed Racer and Rankin/Bass toons. I do agree that the animation quality and storytelling has tremendously improved in today's cartoons and animated dramas as was highly evident in Justice League Unlimited, ThunderCats 2011 and Avatar The Legend of Korra.

However, a lot of today's cartoons are absolutely artless, stupid and brainless such as The Problem Solverz, South Park, The Annoying Orange and Total Drama Island. Nevertheless, many of our new animation is very deep, epic, hilarious and imaginative like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Family Guy Star Wars, TMNT 2012, Catscratch, Regular Show and Transformers Animated.

Total Drama Island has a lot of really sharp humor though, Ill forgive bad art if the humor and writing are decent

I actually enjoy transformers prime, but it suffers from one of my biggest pet peeves in transformers: annoying kids.

Something beast wars doesn't suffer from. ;)

Thankfully, unlike the Michael Bay films, they don't get center focus and their annoyances aren't cranked up to eleven.
