I love the Hulk before David, but he was at his best as the Professor, and has barely interested me since.

Hated the Professor Hulk, he just felt like Generic Green Superhero Guy rather than the Hulk.

Yes. Probably my favorite version of the Hulk. However, it's hard to know if anyone other than Peter David would be able to pull it off as well as he did.

I miss the Merged Hulk, but not the Paul Jenkins' poorly retconned "Professor" idea.
I think that the stories that PAD was telling with the Merged Hulk, the personality conflicts he was still having within, as well as the personality conflicts he was having with the outside world were the most compelling Hulk stories I've ever read. I especially loved that- as a more or less fully actualized personality who also happened to be arguably the most powerful WMD in the world- people considered the Hulk more dangerous than ever before, even former allies. And I liked how the revelations of the possible future of the Maestro paralleled that development, leading one to wonder if our Hulk would turn out that way, and seeing that he might have not been entirely unjustified in doing so.
I miss PAD on the Hulk. Sigh.
