It's the driving force. The people who say crazy shit on facebook do it because of false anonymity. They're too dumb to realize it!

It could be, I just don't think I'm any less anonymous to you if I use my real name or not.

my Facebook comic group is generally much more civil, as well as the comments on Slott and Wacker's FB pages. that happens when you get a real name and face with the comment.

Is it a group you started?

EDIT: By the way, I completely agree that there is an issue online with anonymity, my point is that I'm not convinced it's a matter of screennames.

As mets points out, CBR encourages the use of real names. Its not required but as using a real name does open one up to more accountability for ones actions, CBR does encourage it.

That being said, many use handles.... If you knew me, my screen name is a name i use to DJ with. Its hardly me hiding from people that have seen me before.

i just noticed CBR does allow a space for in between first and last names.. thats cool, not something most message boards do though.. that ive noticed

Hahahah. No I'm wondering if it's more civil because the people in there actually know each other and are less anonymous, share mutual friends etc.

our local paper went FB commenting
4 things happened.

1. total volume of comments decressed by at least 80%
2. amount of trolling and flaming decreased in my estimation 50%
3. "whistle blowers" and people with "inside" info, who shared info but didnt want to expose them self completely haulted
4. people just registered fake face book accounts..

Part of that though is simply by reducing the amount of overall commenters. Not necessarily because people are embarrassed with what they're posting on the newspaper's site, but because they're paranoid that someone might be able to get private info. via their Facebook account.

No you're right. Crooks aren't stupid by a long shot, and people have been caught up like this before. You gotta be careful.

If folks were afraid of getting their private info seen by the internet they wouldn't have a Facebook account, much less post on a message board through their FB account.

It totally skipped my mind that SW does not post here anonymously. Whatever he posts is firmly stuck onto him. The same can't be said for a lot of anonymous posters who love to run their mouth. (Of course, their is a lot of self-identifying posters who also love to run their mouth too.)

no truer description exists. Screen names do fall under anonymity. forums supply an audience. I imagine most of us qualify as normal people offline.... you do the math lol.
