There should be a thread on "The Reviewing Process" since many find this discussion to be valuable. I'm here to discuss why this particular review was total crap and how it's a serious PROBLEM.

For this particular conversation we're trying to articulate specific reasons we dislike reviews to more constructively interrogate the process.

In general, I dislike that use of interrogate.

OK. Then talk about the process. If you have specific criticisms of the review process or results, it would be useful to offer those so we can continue the constructive dialogue.

    Hi Shingen,

Another reviewer here. Due to (1) time and (2) reluctance to engage with hostile commenters, I've responded only to posts when I feel I've either made a mistake or the commenter is offering constructive criticism, and that's if I have the time or feel brave/foolhardy.

For instance, I'm much more likely to engage (if that is the desired outcome, which if not the case sometimes) if criticism isn't limited to (1) bashing the review and the reviewer and (2) bashing CBR or insinuating that there is conspiracy, bribes, etc.

Thank you for your civility, by the way. As a fellow reviewer, I also appreciate Ryan's detailed and considered responses and giving forum members information. Everything he's written about reviewing is factually correct.

I like the artwork and I really enjoy the character but I do gotta say that so far I'm not really feeling this book either. I'll give the first arc a shot but if it doesn't pick up then chopping block time.

You know,... after reading your explanation, I did re-read the issues 1 - 3 and I do get it now. Thanks a lot for that Shingen...! So, I might keep this on the pull-list now, knowing how to read it.

However, they could have made this more 'reader-friendly' for people who knew little to nothing about Legion. All I knew about him was the Legion Quest mini which was the lead-in-to Age of Apocalypse more then 10 years ago.

I didn't even know that, and yet I understood what was going on

Yes, but you are smart bro, I'm a bit slow.

Seriously: I think for (some) who have not English, but another native language it takes a bit for difficult stories to sink in and like I said, I knew little to nothing about Legion.

The slang is far more difficult to understand than the story.

I just want to know what constitutes the agreed-upon approach to criticism from the CBR politburo: postructuralist, deconstructionist, or reader-response theoretical? Or an assemblage of such?
