Sure, I can agree with that. But at the end of the day, I want to read comics I enjoy and this Beowulf backup was one of my favourite recent comics.
I liked it a lot too. Definitely an interesting take on the story and post-apocalyptic DCU. If DC could implement the character to work in the DCU and keep the classic stories separate, I don't think I'd mind that. It'd be like them making Beowulf their own character, rather than just rehashing the standard Beowulf narrative. A lot like they did w/ Frankenstein. They molded him to be his own unique DC character. He's not just some half-wit monster roaming around 1800s England or Scotland. For Beowulf, I just wouldn't want to continue reading the same stories of him fighting for Hrothgar/the Geats in an ongoing.
Comics were happier before the Internet turned writing superhero stories into fruitless attempts to impress/entertain a small group of ppl who appear to hate comics and their creators. Grant Morrison
