Bad news at the end of the year.

I think that DC Comics fans are officially f#%ucked.

This about Vertigo, not the DCU, which is selling well in spite of those who believes it somehow needs "fixing".

I suspect that sales will keep declining in the months and years ahead for DC. Given who they promoted to publisher, I am not surprised by Harras' new title. I am, however, kind of amused by DC's recent PR blunders.

Nobody here has any real idea what Harras is doing behind the scenes either here or when he worked at Marvel, so to complain about his promotion is really just ignorant fanboy whining.

Harras was the guy who had Chris Claremont leave the X-Men in 1991 after writing the title for 16 years (a Marvel record, I think), because he liked better the ideas of pencilers Jim Lee and Whilce Portacio. That's all I need to know about him.

There is something sad when Bob Harras is Editor-in-Chief of DC Comics, while Chris Claremont can't get a job in the industry. Who has done more for comics? Certainly not Bob Harras.

On the other hand, it's been decades since Chris Claremont wrote something readable. And he's never really shown any editorial skills at all (then again, neither has Harras).

And with a DCU that's enough of a blank slate that whatever good momentum from the past there would have been has been neutralized.

To be fair, he's probably more referring to the bifurcation of writing and art in comics now, a more recent trend that's sucked out the uniqueness of the medium. One thing I like about The New 52 is the putting more stress on the visual narrative.
