It got Batgirl trending on Twitter which is something you don't see very often. An actual Comic trending not the movie adaptation or something along those lines.

Double sad news. I would've considered trying Batgirl again and I would've been interested in something different from Simone. So, instead of two possible new reads I get nothing.

Guess I'll just copy-paste what I said in the other thread-

I was quite looking forward to what Ray Fawkes could bring to this book, so I'm disappointed by this, which also seems to say that either Cunningham consulted no one on this or editorial don't seem to know what they're doing. I just hope Fawkes gets something else in the future.

Maybe not but putting a writer back on a book she was removed from because she disagreed with an editorial dictate could count as a good move. Wasn't the point of the reboot to give writers More creative freedom?

And we know that was the reason why she was fired because...?
The book is completely mediocre and filled with awfull villains. If I was an editor I would try to change that, especially when the writer in question is an amazing writer capable of much more.

I thought the point of the reboot was to sell lots of books?
    My blog.

That's not what I meant and you know it. It's easy to tell online who is raising a point out of genuine belief and rationality, and who is just a troll. DC didn't just look at a bunch of posts saying "OMG SIMONE OFF BATGIRL H8 DC". There was more to this than just a writer being moved off a book - it was one of the terrifyingly few female writers being moved off a female led book. This writer is also a great ambassador to fans, popular, talented and has always spoken highly of DC. Any internet reaction will have been a fraction of the true feelings at work.

Yeah, now I feel sorry for Fawkes getting the editorial jerk-around. On the other hand, it would have sucked if his work on Batiglrl wasn't judged on its merits because it had this cloud of drama hanging over it. This is probably for the best.

I've been happy with how Batgirl has gone so far, and if Simone moves on to something else, I'd like it to be because she's ready for something different.
Same Day: Batgirl, Supergirl, WW, DemonK, JLD, Dial H, Earth 2, SoS
Maybe Later: Action, GL, Aqua, DCUP, Titans, Firestorm, Animal, Swampy, Batwoman, Worlds F, JL, Flash, PhantomS, BoP, GL: NG

    No, not really.
A big part of Simone's popularity comes from her online pressence. Right here, that's where her fans are. If you saw the comments on Secret Six while it was being published you would've thought it was an amazing best seller. So, I wouldn't say it was a fraction. In fact, I would say it would be pretty much it. Maybe a few cosplayers annoying people at conventions, like Rich Johnston suggested. Like the SDCC Batgirl. You know that one. The girl that is the reason why Ann Nocenti is getting work at DC? Yeah, that's her.
Then the "valid point" part makes 0 sense. There are hardly valid points in this kind of stuff. Some people like stuff, some people don't (in this case I would say most people didn't, but let's not focus on that). I consider a valid point when someone says the JSA should allways be based on WWII. Should DC have listened to the online opinions and replace Earth 2 with a WWII book? Critics and sales say no.
And the "one of the terrifyingly few female writers being moved off a female led book" part is the worst. Hiring people based on gender is ridiculous. That was what got us Nocenti's Green Arrow and Catwoman on the first place. You hire the good writers, male or female, and something close to 90% of the industry are males, so you're obviously going to get more males.

Well I did say I don't personally care for this version (for a number of reasons), so whenever it sells better now or not doesn't matter so much.

Well per DC propaganda the stated purpose of dropping the old continuity was to free up writers from it's restrains so they could have more creative freedom. In fact Scott Snyder said “Essentially, he was telling us to write the absolute best stories we could with those characters, but also to be unafraid of telling the stories that we would love to see ourselves if we could only see one story of this character, ever..."

Of course the Business side was hoping that it would result in easier access and higher comics book sells. But DC has tried to tell us that was a side benefit not the goal.

Yes, it's Barbara Gordon. It was allways going to sell well. Batman the Dark Knight used to be the worst Bat-book and it was one of the top sellers for DC.
