One of my favourite Spider-Man books ever! The first 2 over-sized hardcovers are fantastic. The Terry Moore mini-series...Not so good.
Is it just me, or does it seem like Mary Jane Loves Spider-Man would've been a more appropriate title? I mean, she is the protagonist. Spider-Man himself (in-costume, I mean) gets relatively little face-time.
I think you should turn in your man card, for saying "man card". This series was great. I miss it greatly.
There's a bit of Spider-Man in all of us.
"Not everything... Not yet..."
Scott Summers IS NOT a delusional egotist.
If only more people bought it :( I would love to see more of it.
It would be a great way of making a live action TV series for Spidey. If it worked for Superman, it can work for Spidey!
So... what's this book about? Besides the above Spiderman/Mary Jane romance?
It's actually about MJ's life in high school, wherein Spider-Man-related mayhem spills through several times. Something I remembered appreciating in the one story arc I got to read was that, because MJ is the POV character, if you didn't know Peter and Spider-Man are the same person, you can't necessarily tell from the book. After all, in this continuity, MJ does'nt know.
Agreed, it definitely reads like a teen-oriented TV series.
Yeah, it's set in its own continuity where Peter, MJ, Liz, and Gwen are high school friends, and none of them know that Peter is Spider-Man. Peter really doesn't get any more focus than the other supporting characters, which has a cool effect on the feel of the story.
Also, like E. Wilson said, the reader never sees any hard evidence that Peter is Spider-Man, so you can understand why MJ hasn't figured it out. You don't see much of Spider-Man's adventures at all; MJ just sees video clips on the news and reads about it in the newspaper.
I loved this series to bits. If you ask me, it was one of the most daring books Marvel has put out... Stylistically not really their area, but they did it. Wish it had done better.
No need to turn in your man card. It's very well written.
Will it become Mary Jane loves Superior Spider-Man or something now?
I didn't know. I never actually read it haha...
