Seriously! This happened a week or 2 ago with...I forget now. It had nothing of note to say negatively so I wasn't sure why it wasn't a 5.
I really loved this issue, it was my comic of the week on my site. Anyone who enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies will eat this series up. Everything is happening on an epic scale with incredibly well rendered art by Esad Ribic.
I write comic book reviews every Wednesday using pages from each book. Check it: Is It Good?: All the Best Books of the Day Reviewed!
I love Jason Aaron's work. I love Thor. To me, there is a kind of detective/crime noir feel to the story, but in Asgard. Which is great. Ribic's artwork is great too. One of the best Marvel NOW books.
That's right! Al Gore invented the internet, let's all go kick his ass!
I got your inconvenient truth right here, motherf*&¨%!

An amazing story, and the Great Ribic : I have not read such a fantastic Thor story since several years !![]()

This is a great title.
Aaron and Ribic are bringing their A-game to this title.
Adults struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life when the answer is obvious to the smallest child: because it's not real. - Grant Morrison
I don't quite understand, Matt. If I rave about soemthing it MUST be an A. A B, 4 stars, is a very good comic. Hence, the raving.
In my system: 4 stars is a very good comic, 4.5 stars is a ridiculously great comic, and 5 stars is one of those special comics I'll be remembering for a long time.
I raved about Thor because I really enjoyed this comic. Is it a classic to be studied later, no, not at all, but it was damn fine.
4 stars.

Dude, UA got 3 stars on the last issue: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...review&id=5425

Well all you did was rave about it. And no where in that review are you leading the reader to believe this is just a 'very good comic'. You don't say one negative thing about it. No criticism at all. And that's fine. But the totality of the words of your review don't equal just 4 stars. And like was said before it happens alot on this site.
I think I see the problem here. Check this, I really dug this issue, a lot, hence the 4 stars, but what i don't want to write is this:
"Thor: God of Thunder is a superbly constructed book with astounding art and a brutally efficient mystery at its heart. However, it's lacking that X factor of a moment or line of dialogue that push it into greatness. While an exceptionally enjoyable book, it does fall shrot of perfection on a number of pages and hence is not 5 stars."
See that? That's what I would have to write. The book IS great, I am loving it a lot, but qualifying what's holding it down toa 4 and away from a 5 star rating is a hard thing to say. It didn't get cribbed because it had a typo or a scene was a little draggy. The whole book was very damn good, but this issue was not 5 stars. 5 stars is for the absolute classic issues. The issues I'll instantly remember at the end of the year for my best of year lists. This issue was not that. I honestly don't know if I can say that in a review - THAT would seem nitpicky as hell. "Yeah, this book was amazing but not perfect so i docked it a star."
I understand my review was effusive in praise, and I feel deservedly so, but then having to pause and remind the reader that it wasn't perfect so be warned feels silly. I just hope people read the review, see the stars, and think to themselevs, "Ah, okay, this book is 4 stars. This book is obviously very good. That's awesome :)"
Does that make sense why there was no criticism? I'm not going to criticise a book for being great but not perfect.

OMFG Esad Ribic is AMAZING!!! If anyone watches any of the Marvel AR videos, he did an interview in this one called "How to be a Viking" and it was hilarious. I love the way he talks and he's just freakin awesome.![]()
