They're just reinterpreted elements, not direct continuations of the golden age and silver age

Not to mention that batman is out of his mind when he wears that. But there's also Inc which gave us a batcow, a batdog and all kinds of cheesy elements, but the book is written in a tongue in cheek way and doesn't take itself too seriously.

That doesn't matter. It was stated in those stories that those goofy Silver Age stories did happen in some form.



And this^^ is not reinterpreted. It directly refers to a story where Batman and Batwoman had their souls or life forces, whatever, trapped inside a camera by some bad guy, and with every step they take they get more exhausted and weak until they die unless they are reunited with said camera. Meanwhile the souls inside the cameras encounter all kinds of crazy shit. They were ultimately saved by Grayson Robin and Bette Kane Batgirl.

Saying Batman is free of crazy Silver Age stories is quite wrong, imo.

WW seems to be rolling along fairly well in its way. It has been in my view one of the most consistent in quality in terms of writing and art since the 52 re-launch.

Though yet again they are trying to give her a cast of supporting characters, who I doubt anyone of which will make the breakout from the title & will no doubt all be forgotten in a couple of years time.

I haven't been folowing the series enough to understand what's been done, but splitting up the aegis sounds like a dumb idea to me. This is the problem I always have with all the various takes on Wonder Woman: I get interested because I'm interested in Greek mythology, but then I'm always disappointed by what the poor judgement shown in how they make use of that incredibly rich source material.

As for WW wielding the thunderbolt, I really hope not - you might as well make her a full-blown goddess and head of the pantheon and have done with it - but I think that in raising that idea you touch on something I've noticed before: they never really know what to do with Athena because so many of that goddess's attributes have been transferred to WW herself - not only the physical strength and whole woman-warrior aspect but also the even-tempered, relatively benevolent (for a Greek god) persona (yes, I know you can come up with all kinds of counter-examples to this last, but amongst all the many, often conflicting, elements that contribute to our picture of this particular goddess, that is a prominent one). So that doesn't leave much of a role for Athena in the WW universe. Not that Marvel has done a better job, of course, but I think that's down to the general antagonism towards mythology that's a part of superhero comics in general, probably with a bit of unconscious misogyny added on.

I've been reading Thor for ages and he's a full god who has been, for years at a time, head of the pantheon.

Why not have an equivalent over at DC? It's not like we don't already have people who can become instant surgeons in five minutes of reading after spending a few days holding up the weight of the planet or the right hand of god's vengeance turning people into wax candles so he can light their wicks and let them melt to death runnin' around ;)

For me it would be bad because I'm more interested in the Greek mythology than in WW, so making her a goddess and/or head of the pantheon would just be another instance of downgrading the Olympians in order to build up the title character, in the tried and true fashion of superhero comics. It's already bad enough they had her beating up Artemis, from my perspective.
