Not that Bilbo didn't do pretty well for a completely untrained guy who was basically just handed a sword. Still, I think we'll need another movie or two before he gets to really shine. (Looking forward to the spider fight, personally.)

No offense to Gimli, who we all know is a mega badass, but I think Dwalin would win.
In The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey, Dwalin is shown as the biggest, toughest and most insanely destructive dwarf ever. First of all, he has a huge f***ing war hammer, hes got tatoos on his head, he has knuckledusters and two battle axes. Now for his feats-
In the battle of Azanulbizar we see him head butting several orcs, knocking em out in one blow, and then he completely destroys Bolg, who's like seriously ten feet tall.
In the troll fight he's whacking those trolls left and right without getting a scratch, at one point smacking Bert in the face and knocking his teeth out. At one point he jumps off the pot, does a sommersault, lands, and then Thorin jumps off his back and slices a troll in the face!
And in goblin town!!! How could none of you mention this? He's doing something ultra badass every five seconds! Hes picking up goblins high over his head and throwing them, he's fighting on the swinging bridge, hes pushing the giant boulder with his fellow badass Thorin onto the goblins, and at one point he stops fighting (after demolishing several goblins with his axes), picks up a railing, and starts knocking dozens of goblins off the bridge!
And he gets bonus points for his mohawk at Azanulbizar.
He's so epic that he brings out the Misty Mountains Theme on five occaisions.
At the end of FOTR, Gimli's kill count was eight (plus three troll points), while Dwalin's is beyond count (plus four troll points).
But both of them really are orc destroying machines.

thats cool and all but gimli still has the higher kill count against much tougher foes.

Gimli kills freakken *Uber* Orcs, the ones that were half man and half orc. And he mows through those guys.

The "Goblin" style orcs are not that threatening.

It isnt fair to count all three lotr movies for Gimli's kill count. Considering Dwalin has only been in the first Hobbit so far, you should only count Gimli's first movie. And if you do, the score is Gimli: 9 and Dwalin:15, and thats not even counting the ones he knocks off the bridge with the railing. And, though the goblins may not be very tough, what about the wargs? And Bolg, who is taller and seemingly stronger than any uruk hai? He is over 7 feet tall and Dwalin takes him down in 3 hits.
And Gimli isnt as invincable as you make him seem. He was knocked over into the water by that orc in Helm's Deep.
Still, theyre both great dwarf warriors, and it is tough to say who would win.

...And yet he would later be helped up and join Aragorn in a kill spree.

I get what you mean, Gimli can be taken down so he's not some war god but frankly, he's an impressive killing machine even in the first film. I just can't find myself denying that, even if his score was low compared to Dwalin in the first film (cause using a kill score to gauge...Anything is kind of flimsy to me given the scenario).

By all means, Gimli is a hell of a warrior. He is an absolute kick ass orc destroying machine in all three movies, and I was never trying to imply otherwise. I was just trying to give Dwalin some credit, since very few other people around here were, and prove that he would be quite the match for Gimli.

No worries, nobody's saying Dwalin's completely sucks. Just that Gimli has him beat in all respects. No real punches to Dwalin's face from us, just light jabs.

I mean it's a good fight idea and Dwalin would make Gimli work for it but Gimli will pull through in the end, given his fight record, which I see as mainly a showcase of what Gimli can do in general, especially when he's at his best.

Am I right in thinking that Gimli wanted to go on the Lonely Mountain quest but was refused because he was too young or something?
